VERTI-GRO

VERTI-GRO Verti-Gro® helps gardeners & farmers grow more with less using sustainable vertical gardening systems. Made in the USA.

From backyard to farm, we make fresh, local food possible—anywhere. Learn more at vertigro.com & YouTube . The Verti-Gro Hydroponic Growing Systems provide for very high density production for the Commecial Grower and space saving for the hobbyist or casual home Gardener. Whether for the purpose of small farms, large scale agricultural operations or reasearch, the space saving is

significant. Anyone can assemble and operate our Vertical Gardens and grow Hydroponic Strawberries, Lettuce, Tomatoes... In a much smaller space, due to the higher density allowed by our systems. We are your best source for Vertical Hydroponic Gardening, Vertical Organic Gardening, and Commercial Greenhouse Vertical Production Systems, as well as smaller Hobbyist Greenhouse, Shadehouse and indoor/outdoor growing systems. Our stackable pots are insulated to protect the plants from extreme temperatures. Stacking pots in Vertical Towers allows for very high density production in a far smaller amount of space. The Verti-Gro system is excellent for CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture). Our specially formulated Hydroponic Fertilizers and Nutrients provide all plants the means to thrive in our Vertical Planters. Grow Lettuce, Tomatoes, Strawberries, Peppers, Broccoli, Greens, Ivy, Eggplants, Parsley, Basil, Corn, Herbs, Flowers and almost anything Vertically!!!

PEST OF THE WEEK- MEXICAN BEAN BEETLE😠
This is a new one for us- haven't really had trouble with this destructive little beast before. Seems they all hatched about the same time and decimated the leaves overnight. The adult looks like a large orange lady beetle, but don't be fooled. Squish them if you only have a few. Spinosad and insecticidal soap are effective on the larvae but try to get the underside of the leaves. Bonide's Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew is a good option. 🐛👩‍🌾

Cyclospora: What We Know
The recent Cyclospora outbreak is alarming, but it isn't entirely unexpected. Our complex, highly consolidated food system means risks reverberate widely when something goes awry. Opting out can be difficult due to the circuitous path most of this country’s produce follows from the fields to our tables.

Cyclospora is a perfect storm for our highly consolidated food system. Taylor Farms is just one of four grower-shipper-packers that controls 54% of the fresh-cut salad market.

Consolidation increases consumer risk and lack of transparency. As one of our advisors recently pointed out, “Large aggregator supply chains are a black hole of consumer knowledge.” That's why Cornucopia exists, to give you back some of your power in the food system.

Community-scale farms are part of the solution! Seek them out in your region, at the farmers market, at your independent retailer, and on your summer/fall road trips. Join a CSA and keep your money circulating in your own community.

Learn what you can do, and cut through the misinformation with our explainer on Cyclospora.

Been waiting a long time for this beauty! Love adding some color to salads and salsa with these yellow tomatoes and pear tomatoes. Growing tomatoes in a vertical garden may seem challenging, but with a little pruning it can be easy! 🍅👩‍🌾

Has the cyclospora outbreak affected your vegetable consumption or do you eat only the veggies you can grow? The safest bet- grow your own. Did you know lettuce is one of the easiest things to grow in a vertical garden? If there are vegetables you like to eat but don't like to grow- support your local farmers! While it sounds miserable, it shouldn't stop us from eating veggies. It also shouldn't stop us from supporting local farmers. The lettuce affected was grown in Mexico and only iceburg lettuce. Most important-read labels, check where your produce is coming from! And if fast food calls your name- maybe just skip the lettuce in the summertime. 😬👩‍🌾🥗
