We just wrapped up the install on this to-die-for custom pantry transformation from a basic little room, to classy and functional, with more storage than you can imagine!

As many of our projects do, this one looks simple, but there is so much that went into it and a lot of the complicated parts most people will never even see. The custom pull out drawers with maple fronts provide a level of sophistication and functionality. The Quartz countertops match the kitchen and butler pantry providing cohesiveness. The towering small appliance storage on the left will house all the rice cookers and crock pots. The floating shelves will hold all the food and paper goods our clients can fill them with. And the sliding pocket doors.. one of the most complicated parts or the build, provide access to a huge storage space - and these are not just basic pocket doors, these use top of the line hardware offering slow-close open AND close.

Lots of questions about Mark and Bre’s vacation, so here it goes… It was amazing.

Bre had no idea where we were going until we checked in at Charleston airport. She knew it was probably going to be warm, and there might be a beach and possibly some rum. For me, it was sort of like our big 4th of July fireworks shows; months of planning, lots of last-minute adjustments, then sit back and enjoy the ride.

We started off in Mexico City. Exploring, taking hot air balloon rides, private museum tours, and enjoying amazing food and drinks – and we celebrated my 50th birthday in style. Then it was off to Nicaragua for some relaxation – and oh wow, did we relax. The property was breathtaking. Our villa was out of a magazine. The food was 5-star. Every day you wake up in amazement, and that feeling doesn’t go away until you fall asleep. There really are no words to describe it. It was simply perfect.

Getting back to work, admittedly, took a few days longer than I planned. Travel can be life changing, and sometimes you want to hold on to that feeling just a little bit longer – this was one of those times. But the detox is complete, we’re moving ahead full steam with projects already underway. And the puppy is becoming a shop dog. Life is good!

(the pictures are somewhat in order and there is a video of our villa buried in there somewhere)

We’re taking a little vacation break for two weeks, and then we’ll be right back at it, fresh and rested! Here are some smaller installs we just wrapped up to tide you over until the next one!

Check out our latest build!! It looks so simple, but my lord was this one tricky.

When repeat clients give us challenges, we always step up. Miss Sandy is a great client for many reasons, but we love that she knows exactly what she wants. Our task is to execute her vision.

So let’s start with the challenges… this opening in her dining room was over a half inch wider in the back than the front. This is pretty rare, it’s usually the other way around. When the front is wider it’s easy to push things into it. When the back is wider it makes things more complicated. Additionally, as with all newer builds, the walls were also crooked and out of plum. The client wanted to continue the stacked crown, incorporate glass doors and shelves, have some drawers and some cabinet space. But the space was only 15 3/4” deep on the left and 16 1/4” on the right! A dining room table will also be in front of this with limited space to walk past the build.

What we came up with was wrapping the desktop around the drywall and bowing the desktop further out while using recessed door/drawer pulls. This allowed us to push everything out a just little further while avoiding the risk of a dinner guest catching the edge of the desktop or a door handle. This desktop is unquestionably the most difficult one we’ve ever built. Perfectly worked by hand to fit the recessed opening that is different depths on left and right while wrapping around the corners proving an incredibly custom look. We were so nervous about installing this desktop and all the things that could go wrong. No matter how many measurements you take, no matter how many templates you make, installs like this often don’t go as planned. This time it did. First try. Dropped right in!

The desktop is ambrosia maple (which matches the clients home office that we built last year across the hall). The wallpaper is gorgeous and heavily textured and will go perfectly with her blue China which will be displayed behind the glass door uppers. The base cabinets provide ample storage and the drawers will be very handy for smaller wares, table cloths and place mats.

There were many other challenges in this build, but honesty were too tired to go through them!

It’s been an interesting few weeks. After wrapping up our last project of the year (see prior post), we took a road trip to Ann Arbor, MI to pick up a new 10 month old addition to our family. Unfortunately, we didn’t connect well with her, but we did with someone else! The trip back made us question the idea of a 10 week old puppy. We weren’t planning for a puppy, the house wasn’t ready for a puppy, but little Winston (whose dad won the Sporting Group at Westminster earlier this year) is a blessing (and a pee’re, pooper, biter, bad all-night sleeper, and all the other fun things that come with puppy’s).

In other news, we’ve FINALLY had a chance to move into the new shop – and unwrap some new shop toys - and we’re starting to get caught up on some small projects (baby gates, pantry shelves, custom closet systems, etc) that we had fallen a bit behind on towards the end of 2025. It was also great that a client of ours dropped by with a shop-warming gift the other day – a very cool custom clock that went up on the wall right away. Thank you Mr. Cunningham!

The past week or two was supposed to be a little R&R, but it has been anything but. It’s good to get back into the grind though, doing what we love, building beautiful wood projects for amazing clients!

Wishing y’all a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

And that’s a wrap! MBH Woodshop's final install of 2025!

As always, our finished products “look” simple, they are anything but. Beautiful Ambrosia Maple was chosen for the desktops, bench and mantle – each piece is always hand chosen by us for character to match the clients goal – and the bold color selections chosen by the clients and our designer Palmer Lane really make everything pop and allow the wood to shine. The upper cabinets have recessed and hidden dimmable LED lighting. The center stack bump out is more complicated than it appears. Covered in ship lap with column corners, we staggered the base cabinets, upper cabinets, bump out, and drawers below at different depths to give this nearly 19 foot long wall some depth, avoiding the flat plane look. Hidden in the base cabinets are multiple power ports for Christmas decorations, and the lower drawers in the center stack also provide multiple outlets to power gaming systems, with a custom 4” pipe to allow all cabling to run up to the TV. A great electric fireplace, ridiculously beautiful 68 inch wide custom mantle, and huge TV fit perfectly.

These were great clients and we are so happy we were able to deliver in time for the family Christmas.

We’re finally moving into our new shop during the holidays and looking forward to getting caught up on some smaller projects for our sister company MBH Home Services and starting up on Woodshop projects already on the schedule for the new year.

To all of our clients, we wish you a Merry Christmas and thank you for the opportunity to provide a little more love to your home.

We're pushing hard to get our last big install of the year completed next week, but in other exciting news... We're FINALLY in our new shop. Well, sort of. As soon as we wrap up the build we'll actually start moving in. In the mean time, MBH Home Services is making themselves at home with all the extra storage space.

Just wrapped up our latest build. We LOVE it - and more importantly, so does our client! What do YOU think??

There is so much custom here it's hard to even keep track, but we took every need the client had and packaged it into a clean and custom look.
