2026 marks 50 years of Hallman Asphalt.

Five decades of projects.
Five decades of relationships.
Five decades of doing the job right the first time.

What started as weekend patch jobs in Madison has grown into one of the area’s most trusted asphalt and parking lot service companies—serving businesses and property owners across southern Wisconsin.

From Bill and Linda… to Gavin… and now onto the third generation—this has always been about more than asphalt. It’s about pride in the work, reliability, and taking care of our customers.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the last 50 years.

Continuing our Hallman Through the Ages series in honor of our 50-year anniversary…

The 2020s mark a full-circle moment.

Gavin officially took over the business, building on what Bill started and expanding Hallman Asphalt into a full-service asphalt company—offering paving, sealcoating, and ongoing maintenance.

What began as weekend patch jobs is now a complete solution for parking lots across the Madison area.

And the story doesn’t stop there. Gavin and his wife Jen are now raising the third generation—setting the stage for the future of Hallman Asphalt.

The 2010s marked the beginning of the next chapter.

Gavin Hallman started getting involved in the business—building it his own way while carrying forward what Bill started. He began by purchasing sealcoating equipment and taking on driveway and small parking lot projects.

It was the start of a transition from one generation to the next—bringing new energy, expanding services, and setting the stage for the future of Hallman Asphalt.

The 2000s were about more than just paving—they were about people.

As the company continued steady growth, Hallman Asphalt built a team that stuck. Longtime employees like Jim and Dan became a core part of the business, helping deliver quality work year after year.

In this industry, that kind of longevity says everything. Experience matters. Trust matters. And having a crew that takes pride in the work makes all the difference.

Some of those relationships lasted 20+ years—and helped shape Hallman into what it is today.

This lot had a drainage problem that kept coming back.

At a certain point, it’s not a maintenance issue anymore—it’s a base and grading problem.

So we fixed it the right way:
• Removed the existing asphalt
• Rebuilt the failing base
• Installed drainage tile tied into the system
• Repaved the lot
• Rebuilt curbs and added a concrete area
• Restriped everything

No more standing water. No more patching the same spots.

Continuing our Hallman Through the Ages series in honor of our 50-year anniversary…

The 1990s were all about growth.

What started with driveways began expanding into small parking lots and commercial work across the Madison area. With a crew of 3–4 guys, Hallman Asphalt was taking on bigger projects and building a strong reputation along the way.

This was also a big decade for the Hallman family. Gavin, Bill’s son, was born—marking the start of the next generation.

As the business grew, so did the balance—making time for family, including trips up north for hunting and fishing at the cabin.

From small jobs to commercial work, this was the decade Hallman kept leveling up.

In the middle of celebrating 50 years of Hallman Asphalt, today feels especially fitting—National Mom & Pop Business Owners Day.

Hallman didn’t start as a big operation. It started with Bill and Linda—putting in long days, taking on whatever work came their way, and building something from the ground up.

From running equipment… to driving trucks… to managing jobs and growing the business together—this company was built on family.

Today, that legacy continues with their son, Gavin Hallman, who now runs the business and carries those same values forward.

Three generations in the making—and still doing things the right way.
