We are so proud to announce that Sweetwater has been awarded a $950,000 TDOT Multimodal Grant to complete a multiuse path (sidewalk and bike trail) along Highway 11 South. This is a multi-phase project which, when completed, will make a walking and bike trail from Downtown Sweetwater to Highway 68, back to the High Street sidewalk. Phase one is now awarded for the section from Downtown to the area near the former Fred's store. We will then reapply for Phase two to complete the loop back to High Street. This grant program is highly competitive and requires only a 5% local match, with the remainder of the funds coming from the state and federal highway funds. It is Sweetwater's first Multimodal grant award. We are so thankful for the Mayor and Board of Commissioner's support for this project, the staff who worked diligently to complete the application process, particularly the Planning & Development Staff- Chuck Whited and Ashley Myers, and the support of Representative Lowell Russell and our own Sweetwater Merchants and Property Owners Association! A BIG Thank you to East TN Development District and Commissioner and Local Architect Sam Moser for donating the trailhead master plan for this project. While this process is not quick, it is a huge step for Sweetwater in reaching our Community Liveability goals!
