Why I personally use clear nursery pots and why moving forward all my plants at Sweet Fannie Maes will also be in clear pots.

Clear pots provide x-ray vision for your plants, allowing you to easily monitor root health, assess soil moisture levels, and track root growth. They take the guesswork out of plant care by helping you avoid overwatering and knowing exactly when to repot.

Why Clear Pots Are So Beneficial

Perfect Watering Control: Overwatering is the #1 killer of houseplants. Clear pots let you see the exact moisture level of the substrate and the condensation on the walls of the pot, ensuring the soil is fully dry before you water again.Early Root Rot

Detection: You can visually inspect the root system without disturbing the plant. Healthy roots are typically white or light tan; clear pots let you instantly spot mushy, brown, or decaying roots before the damage spreads to the leaves.No-Guess

Repotting: Instead of guessing if your plant is rootbound, you can clearly see when the root system has filled the pot and it is actually time to move up a size.Great for Epiphytes: Plants like orchids and certain aroids naturally grow with their roots exposed to the air and light in the wild.
Clear pots mimic this environment and allow the roots to photosynthesize and grow naturally.

Safer Propagation: When propagating cuttings, clear pots let you observe root development daily without pulling the cutting out of the soil and damaging delicate new growth.

How to Prevent Potential Drawbacks

While clear pots offer major functional benefits, exposing roots to direct light can sometimes promote harmless but unsightly green algae growth. Many plant enthusiasts solve this by using the clear pot as a nursery liner and placing it inside a larger, opaque "cache" pot or decorative cover.

You can see my plant is dry. You can also see the roots. I watered the top and the sides were still dry.

Clear pots allow me to seen how dense my soil is.

The Alocasia Platinum (often classified as Alocasia bisma 'Platinum') is a stunning tropical houseplant prized for its metallic, silvery-blue to grayish-green leaves and darker, contrasting veins. It is generally sold in 2-inch to 6-inch pots, typically ranging from $15-$25.

Care Guide

* Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Direct, harsh sunlight will scorch or discolor the delicate leaves.
* Soil & Watering: Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix (e.g., equal parts peat/potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark). Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy to prevent root rot. Allow the top inch or two to dry out between waterings.
* Environment: Thrives in high humidity (above 60%) and temperatures between 65∘F -80∘F
Protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below 55∘F

Toxicity: Keep out of reach of pets, as it is toxic if ingested.

You can find this BEAUTY for $14.98 at Sweet Fannie Maes!!!

Probably one of my TOP 10!

Can’t believe this plant is still at Sweet Fannie Maes!

Begonia maculata care requires balancing bright, indirect sunlight, consistent but cautious watering, and high humidity. Use a well-draining, airy potting soil, and feed monthly during the growing season to keep this striking polka-dot houseplant thriving.

* Optimal Light: Place your Begonia maculata in bright, indirect light, like near an east- or west-facing window. It needs plenty of light to encourage vibrant leaf color and blooms, but avoid harsh, direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorch.
* Placement: Keep it in a draft-free location, as sudden temperature drops or drafts from heating vents can cause the delicate leaves to dry out and drop.

* Soil: Use a well-aerated, nutrient-rich soil. A mix of 5 parts high-quality indoor potting soil to 1 part perlite or orchid bark ensures proper drainage.
* Watering: Water thoroughly when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry, allowing the excess to drain out the bottom. Aim to keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. If you notice crispy, brown leaf tips, the plant may be getting underwatered or exposed to dry air.
* Avoiding Leaf Rot: Because the leaves are prone to powdery mildew, pour water directly onto the soil rather than splashing the foliage.

* Humidity: They prefer moderate to high humidity. Place a humidifier nearby or group the plant with other houseplants. Daily misting can mimic morning dew and help keep leaves lush, but avoid keeping the foliage constantly wet.
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble liquid fertilizer every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer to promote healthy growth and flowers, scaling back to once a month in fall and winter.

* Pruning: Prune away dead or yellowing leaves using clean scissors to direct energy toward new growth.
* Staking: As the cane stems grow heavy with thick leaves and flowers, they may require staking with a small bamboo pole and soft plant ties to keep them upright and prevent snapping.
