At Terry Horst Landscape Architecture we help mitigate stormwater flooding issues through stormwater management. We aim to utilize green infrastructure practices on every project such as rain gardens, stormwater ponds, drywells, underground infiltration systems and porous pavement. These practices help capture stormwater to minimize flooding on site, and downstream, while also treating stormwater to improve the water quality before leaving the site.

Parks and Recreational spaces promote community health and well-being and also helps lessen the impacts of climate change. They provide spaces for people to experience nature which helps ease stress & anxiety, spaces to gather and meet people which provides social opportunities, and create spaces for people to recreate whether through walking or running which helps our mental and physical well-being. These spaces help give us a place to escape everyday stressors while partaking in healthy lifestyle choices. By introducing and protecting the native vegetation in parks and open spaces, even in urban environments, there is improved air, water and soil quality thus mitigating the effects of climate change by lessening the carbon footprint and urban heat island effect.

Terry Horst Landscape Architecture worked with the Village of Phoenix to create a schematic design for an existing vacant lot in the Village along the Historic Oswego Canal. The design included Apartment Housing, Parking, a multi-purpose Marina building (with commercial opportunities), fishing pier, walking paths, Boat Launch, fishing pier, Public car-top boat launch, boat dock slips, boat fueling dock, and other boat related facilities.

The new ACO StormBrixx Underground Stormwater Infiltration System has been installed at the Westside Academy at Blodgett in Syracuse, NY.

The system is designed to detain stormwater to allow it to infiltrate into the ground and allow excess stormwater to discharge out at a controlled rate to the existing City of Syracuse's Combination Sewer. This system will help reduce flooding downstream and reduce the quantity of stormwater going to the Sewage treatment plant.
