Bare-rooted what I thought was a dead cutting... and it's alive underneath.
Time to revive and salvage this one. Let's see if we can bring it back.

Trip to the Fig Tree ER

This fig was planted last year as a rooted cutting. We did not heat some of the fig houses this winter. A few trees took damage but most made it through. This one died back to the ground. I have been watching for new growth all season and nothing came up. Today I checked below the soil and the bark was slipping off the trunk. The top was dead but the roots were still alive. I dug it up, washed it off, and split the living parts into two pieces to give me two chances. I potted both in ProMix BX and put them in a shady spot in the greenhouse. I will treat them like fresh cuttings and hope they push new shoots.

Breba fig from our Tauro tree. This one is still new to us. We got a couple figs last year. It is supposed to make very large brebas but the main crop needs pollination. Anyone else growing Tauro. What do you think of it. I am still deciding if it is worth planting in the ground for our collection.

When your fig tree gets a roommate 🍅🌳

Compost brought us a surprise tomato plant this Spring. Keeping it would be fun, but will it hurt the fig tree?
I think it’s mature enough to not be bothered, what do you think?

See how those pinches from a few weeks ago are branching out now on these fig trees.
These are second season fig air layers in 5”x12” Stuewe and Sons pots. We shape them to fit our 4 foot shipping boxes with strong, symmetrical scaffolds already started. When you get your tree, just plant it and gently spread the branches with bamboo and tape. No pruning needed, the first 2 years of structure work is done for you.
We have fig trees available for purchase on the Figbid website. Auctions end Saturday evening starting around 7pm EST.

🌟Every Memorial Day Sale order of fig trees went out today. 🌟
We had to call in reinforcements, one vehicle was not going to cut it. We loaded up two full vehicles with boxes.
All tracking numbers are uploaded. All fig trees are scheduled to arrive in the next 3 days and this batch had some absolute stunners in it. We can not wait for you to unbox them.
My wife flew in from Ireland for the week to help with the sale and thank goodness. As you can see from the pictures we had our hands full!!!
