We had a successful event last Saturday at the SS YMCA, Healthy Kids Day (photos posted here are thx to JenniferWhalen), with lots of families coming by and planting seeds, taking away seedling lettuces, cherry tomatoes, oregano plants, etc. Jennifer purchased an array of veggies to show the kids how the seedlings grow into the vegetable, very clever, and made laminated labels for each veggie, affixing its tiny seeds to the label, so the kids could see the seed, seedling, and ultimate vegetable.

The Takoma Horticultural Club invites you to a talk on:
Bees and Bee Keeping
Speaker: Christopher Lewis
Wednesday, April 15, 2026
7:30-9:00 pm ~ Doors open at 7:00 pm
Historic Takoma
7328 Carroll Ave, Takoma Park, MD

Christopher has been keeping honeybees in his Woodmoor backyard since 2010 when he joined the Montgomery County Beekeepers Association. He currently has five beehives in his suburban backyard garden. He worked at Behnke Nurseries for 14 years as a sales associate until they closed. He was a Montgomery County Master Gardener for many years and is currently a member of the Woodmoor and Silver Spring Garden Clubs.
We could say Christopher is a farm boy. He grew up on a farm in Howard County and went off to Susquehanna University in PA to study geology. That led to work in the oil fields of Louisiana, then using his engineering talents closer to home he became a supervisor of construction at BWI Airport. Eventually Christopher decided to get away from the bureaucratic pressures of that job and pursue his life-long love of growing plants by studying horticulture at the USDA Graduate School.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

This is April’s monthly meeting of the Takoma Horticulture Club.
It is open to the public and free.
