Yes, decluttering and organizing is about being able to find your things and about making systems that keep you on track. But it’s also about creating a less stressful environment in your home so you can enjoy the little things (that are actually the big things). For this client, it was the ability to do her artwork in her guest room and sleep in a more relaxing space.

Office organizing tip: if it doesn’t support work, it doesn’t belong here. First we removed non-office items, then we built simple systems for what was actually used in the office/library space.

This seems basic but so often we clutter up our rooms because we either aren’t giving them clear purpose (and without clear purpose anything and everything can end up placed in there) or we simply don’t know where else to put the items.

If you deal with this, start by defining the room. What is its main purpose? Then you will know what should and shouldn’t go in there. Or if you’re having a storage issue, start by going through things one pile or box at a time. Ask yourself if you need the item. If you don’t, then let it go. If you do, identify its rightful home and work on creating a space for it.

We all have limited space so sometimes decisions have to be made but that allows for calm, orderly, peaceful and functional rooms that can thrive (and allow you to do the same).
