If you were in shouting distance of Doak Campbell Stadium for FSU’s football game against the University of North Carolina, you most likely got to witness a flyover of two MH-60R helicopters before the start of the game. Those helicopters were part of the Navy’s HSM-46 squadron typically responsible for anti-submarine operations but also got to play a role in public relations, especially for some local JROTC students.

The Paul Purcell Langston General Aviation Terminal, one of GRC’s early projects in the Tallahassee area, provided a backdrop and meeting point for students from Lincoln High School's JROTC program to meet with the pilots and crew of the helicopter squadron. Ironically, one of the pilots, Lieutenant Commander AJ Geis, call sign “Miyagi”, also graduated from Lincoln High School and FSU. He was able to connect with the students and share his personal experiences with becoming a Navy officer as well as a pilot. The students were able to sit in the aircraft and then watch the helicopters depart for their home base in Jacksonville.

It was collectively a memorable experience for everyone!

We are excited about the startup of our Elder Care Services kitchen expansion project and honored to be a part of something that will make such a difference to reach even more of the seniors in our community. Elder Care Services has been in operation for over 54 years. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for seniors and help them stay independent and living in the setting of their choice. Elder Care is also responsible for the Meals on Wheels program in Leon County, where over 100,000 hot, nutritious meals are delivered to Tallahassee seniors each year. They have worked out of the same kitchen since the mid-80s and are ready for an expansion and upgrade! The expansion would mean that they could work towards their goal of providing even more meals for seniors. State Funding will help start the process of construction in hopes that the community will join together to provide the rest of the necessary funding.

A month ago, the Tallahassee region endured a rare storm that unleashed several tornadoes. Here at GRC, we consider ourselves very lucky because our building only suffered some minor damage to the roof and there were a few downed branches in the parking lot.

Thankfully, the weather since then hasn’t included any major downpours but today we just want to thank and appreciate Old World Craftsmen for coming out to begin repairs. Hearing them clamor about on the roof is a welcome relief.

GRC made their final visit to the students at Springwood Elementary to wrap up the school year. What a fulfilling experience this has been to volunteer our time and give back. The classroom was presented with coloring sheets that consisted of project renders. The students did so well coloring within the lines and expressing their own creativity. Workbooks were donated that will help transition them from kindergarten and prepare them for 1st grade. We concluded our time together by reading one of their favorite books, “Don’t Feed the Bear” and the students surprised GRC’s Marketing Director, Danielle Hogue, with a homemade card that they all signed. This class has been such a joy to be around and we look forward to being a part of this wonderful Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce Classroom Connection program again in the upcoming school year.

GRC has had the opportunity to be a part of restoring the historical Fort Coombs Armory in Franklin County, Florida. We are about to start Phase II of the project that will include interior and exterior renovations that remain after the completion of the fire suppression installation work.

As a historical building, Fort Coombs is under the purview of the Florida Division of Historical Resources.

It was a great Spring Day to celebrate a groundbreaking ceremony as it was mostly sunny with the occasional cloud providing some welcome but intermittent shade. GRC was on hand for the event and represented by Principals Richard Crowe and Connor Ross, Danielle Hogue, Director of Marketing, Jerry Elmore, Designer, and James Hughes, Designer. Gathered under a Culpepper branded canopy tent, team GRC mingled with other guests to chat about one of Tallahassee’s newest projects, the upcoming Senior Center on Welaunee Boulevard.

The GRC designed project covers six acres and will feature 40k square feet of services to accommodate 5,000 people per day. There will not be any shortage of activities for Tallahassee’s seniors at this new facility which will include gym space for 6 pickleball courts as well as a special wing dedicated to meet the increasing demand for Lifelong Learning.

GRC is grateful to have been included in with a team of people to address the needs of Tallahassee’s current and future senior population. The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
