A more expensive kitchen sink is not automatically a better one.

The wrong kitchen sink can become frustrating every single day. The right kitchen sink can completely improve how your kitchen functions.

That's why great kitchen design isn't about spending the most money. Great kitchen design is about spending money where it actually matters.

Quality comes down to construction, materials, dimensions, sound deadening, and functionality. Not the name stamped on the bottom.

A quick guide before you buy:

- Stainless steel: check the gauge.
- Fireclay: check how it is manufactured.
- Granite composite, check the stone content.
- Cast iron, check the enamel finish.

Then look for sound-deadening pads and a protective undercoating to cut the vibration and hollow noise cheaper sinks are known for.

For most kitchens, we recommend a sink at least 30 to 33 inches wide and 9 to 10 inches deep.

That level of detail on one fixture is how we approach an entire kitchen.

Unpopular opinion: quartz is here to stay. 👇

Lately it feels like everyone is saying quartz countertops are out.

But here's the thing: the quartz people love to criticize is usually builder-grade product and dated designs, not the premium quartz being made today.

Today's quartz has come a long way. Better movement, more realistic veining, richer color depth. It looks nothing like what many homeowners remember.

Why it keeps landing on our clients' shortlists:

✅ Low maintenance. No routine sealing the way natural stone often needs.

✅ Predictability. You know exactly what you're getting, which makes the whole selection process easier.

✅ Variety. Marble, limestone, and quartzite-inspired looks mean more options than ever.

✅ Consistency. Fewer of the fissures, pits, and surprises you find in natural stone, and it won't etch the way marble can.

The best countertops aren't about trends. They're the ones that fit your lifestyle, your expectations, and your kitchen design goals.

So we have to ask: would quartz make your shortlist? Tell us in the comments. 👇

🏠 10 Home Features People Often Regret Choosing

Some features look great in photos and showrooms but can become daily frustrations once you live with them.

These can be good features to add, if they fit you needs and you invest in quality fixtures. But they should be done with intention and a real understanding of the pro's and cons.

A few we see homeowners second-guess:

1️⃣ Sliding Glass Doors
Many homeowners eventually wish they had chosen French doors. Standard sliders can be less secure, less energy efficient, and more prone to operational issues. High-end sliders solve many of these problems, but they require a bigger investment.

2️⃣ Quartzite & Other High-Maintenance Stone
Beautiful? Absolutely. Maintenance-free? Not always. Some natural stones require regular sealing and can be more susceptible to staining than homeowners expect.

3️⃣ Skylights
The promise is more natural light. The reality can include leaks, constant cleaning, pollen buildup, mildew, and direct overhead sun exactly when you don't want it.

4️⃣ Stained Concrete Floors
What looks sleek and modern on Pinterest can sometimes feel cold or unfinished in a home. Repairs are difficult if damage occurs, and finish issues can be challenging to correct.

5️⃣ Matte Wall Paint
Flat and matte finishes hide texture but show every fingerprint, scuff, and mark. In busy households, durability often matters more than appearance.

6️⃣ Linear Shower Drains
They create a clean, modern look but require more frequent cleaning than many homeowners realize.

7️⃣ Floor Outlets
They seem like a smart idea during planning. In reality, furniture layouts change and many homeowners rarely use them.

8️⃣ Electric Fireplaces
Installation is easy, but some homeowners find the appearance less convincing than expected and the heat output underwhelming.

9️⃣ Oversized Showers
Bigger isn't always better. Large showers can feel drafty, require more cleaning, and often consume space that could be used elsewhere in the bathroom.

🔟 Pocket Doors
Pocket doors solve some layout challenges, but they can be difficult to repair, hardware options are limited, and many homeowners end up leaving them open most of the time. Premium pocket door systems perform much better, but they cost more.

The lesson?

The best remodeling decisions aren't always the trendiest ones. They're the ones that work well for how you actually live every day.

When it comes time to install your kitchen cabinets, whether it be for a new build or a remodel, a very common question asked is whether or not the cabinets should go to the ceiling.

The answer depends on a number of factors: ceiling height and style, cabinetry type, and, most importantly, what you like best.

The answer will depend on how high your ceiling is, what type of kitchen cabinets you have, and, of course, your personal preference.
