Inkdot "downtown shopping will never be the same" INKDOT is a that place where a "special something" waits for everyone. It is a place for the imagination in all of us.

There is no rush as time stands still in the presence of 100 years of "cultural makings/droppings" that inform the forms on display. The memory works like a small bondage device and items at INKDOT evoke ageless time. Where all of us exhale, breathe, relax. All that silly stuff and all the heavy stuff is for a moment a whim and a wish away.

So cool. Just great!

The BRIDGE/MARKER celebration is on October 17th at 6:00 pm.

Chandler's Tourist Camp

Stories sometimes come layered like a wedding cake marrying together many different parts. This marker did.

The year before Dad’s passing he called me to bring home his music, songs he had long ago written for Mother. I came with the music and he filled me with more stories like how he traveled from Rhode Island to Tallahassee. He recalled how he first stopped at the Ben Bridges ball field and signed up to teach Little League. I thought; Really! Not Cascades? "No, Ben Bridges Ball field", he said. But where was it now? What had become of it? All these questions led me to the RA Gray Library to research and unravel a fascinating local history of baseball, the Dixie Highway, Tin Can Tourists and local auto camps, motels, and hotels. The Chandler’s Tourist Camp marker, placed Sept 21, 2016 at Cascades Crossing, off Adams Street and FAMU WAY, shares a multi-layered local history. The marker celebrates one man’s vision for automobile accommodations in Tallahassee, the beginning of Florida’s Automobile Tourism on the Dixie Highway in Florida, Lake Ella and the crossroads of the Old Spanish Trail, and the long parallel roads leading south to Miami Beach. Layered in this story is a deliciously sweet piece of my memory, the Ben Bridges Ball Field, that was Dad’s Field of Dreams, and where he came to start a family. From our modest house behind a barn on the Dixie Highway, at the edge of Southwood Plantation, across from cow fields, in a small pasture with a creek, surrounded by oaks, crepe myrtle and magnolias we shared a red dirt road with the flashing neon lights of the Dixie Motel where my first memories of trucks, cars, Southern waves and friendly faces, and the noise and humming of life pulsed.

"The synergism between owner and object, whether found love, rekindled memories, or instant attraction -- all of this is the language of forms; and a real lesson in what good of things will carry on. Longing gave birth to those forms; some human need was met, and then time passed them by; but in a twinkle in the light at INKDOT and they were lifted from the cribbage heap... They feel real to us and new and special... They continue to enhance our life and a real human need is satiated. This new memory in our hearts and the impetus to love an old thing; to take your treasure kindle into your home. Thank you Tally for allowing an object lesson in the history of things to be witnessed."

INKDOT IS MOVIN' ON.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that Inkdot at its current location as of last Thursday has closed up shop. We know this may come as a shock to some of you, and we offer our deepest apologies that we were not able to inform our customers ahead of time, but unfortunately the timing was so sudden that we did not have the opportunity to get the word out. As always, we want to thank all of you for the good times and memories you have provided us with during our run, and for making us part of the Tally community.

From the beginning, our goal has been to provide Tally with more than just than just another thrift store, but a unique and personal shopping experience that made you feel something, and we hope that is something we have achieved during our time here.

Remember that when you have come and shopped here, you have taken home a piece of somebody's past and have made it a part of your own. We are proud to have been the ones to pass that on to you, because that is the idea that Inkdot was founded on.

As was mentioned, there were some really great things that were in the works for the store, and the energy that has been poured into this place is still alive and well. Inkdot will be back in some form in the future, and when it does it will come back stronger than ever. In the meantime, help keep the spirit of the 'Dot alive. You own a piece of it, and are always a part of it.

Thanks again Tally.
