It’s time to schedule your landscaping project with us, business is booming and growing. Just a reminder that besides my standard mowing service, we also trim shrubs, bushes, and hedges, oh my. Add mulch, establish flower beds, install borders, weeding flower beds. Stone work, patio pavers, pruning and planting. Time to get scheduled and in the book. Thanks

Can you say Dollar W**d, wants to make me Holler. Here’s a little clip taken from the good folks at Clemson University;

Dollarweed is a water-loving plant that can float. The presence of dollarweed indicates that there is excessive moisture in the area. Research at the University of Florida demonstrated a reduction in dollarweed just by reducing irrigation frequency (http://grove.ufl.edu/~turf/weeds/dollarweed.html).Monitoring moisture levels and evaluating irrigation frequency are the first steps to controlling dollarweed. Landscape plants and lawns require one-inch of water a week for optimum growth.

A properly maintained landscape that is not stressed by insects, diseases, drought or nutrient imbalance is the best defense against weeds. Proper mowing height of lawns and a 3-inch thick mulch layer around trees and shrubs will prevent the invasion of weeds. For more information on proper landscape maintenance techniques, see the following fact sheets: HGIC

Since the beginning of April I’ve been keeping all of my customers lawns mowed weekly. It helps the lawn grow thicker which in turn helps prevent so many weeds from popping up. I also use mulching mowers, which has a couple of benefits also. The clippings on a mulching mower are cut many times with the special blades that I sharpen after every 10 hours of use. These clippings are returned to the turf and decompose very quickly, and add nutrients back into your lawn. Mulching also eliminates a lot of unnecessary landfill overuse and saves on disposal cost.

Usually it’s the simplest answer. It’s been so dry this past month that the smallest adjustment to a couple of sprinkler heads would have kept this grass looking beautiful. Call me with any of your lawn care needs.

I’m seeing steady growth out there lately, with my business and with the lawn and weeds. This time of year is an important time to get your lawn off to a healthy start. Adjust your watering schedule, fertilizer and more frequent mowing makes a healthy lawn that can defend itself against the weeds and pests of summer.

Sometimes the old ways, with an old guy, an old technique and old equipment is the only way to get the job done right. I’m talking about Bermuda grass lawn in the backyard of a house that doesn’t have easy access to the back lawn. And once again it’s why people hire me to take care of their lawn care needs. Peace.
