OH THOSE ARCHITECTS ! To establish the famous Louvre Art Collection in Abu Dahbi, French architect 𝐉𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐥 designed an amazing 'gossamer dome' to shelter an assortment of gallery buildings and courtyard experiences in filtered sunlight. 𝐉𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐥's courageous pursuit of new ideas and his challenge of accepted norms has stretched the boundaries of architecture. His work is acknowledged for 'persistence, imagination, exuberance, and, above all, an insatiable urge for creative experimentation !

OH THOSE ARCHITECTS ! "EXPRESSIONISM" in architecture usually means non-linear construction; expressive curves and asymptotes! Would it be OK to give this tired gentleman a name? How about "Newel Post" ? [ The old French word, 'nuel' meant "pillar". Tread lightly! hee hee....

Challenged Life of World Trade Center Architect: American society often envies architects and then despises them, with American born Minoru Yamasaki being a prime example. Born in Seattle, young Yamasaki dealt with Asian discrimination growing up , later during WW2 he narrowly avoided Japanese interment camp, and struggled in his practice to help define American New Formalism, a 1950s style resembling a Temple with colonnades. Yamasaki should be a great American success story..... EXCEPT.... his 1955 award-winning public housing project, Pruitt-Igoe in St. Louis, was eventually a run-down slum taken over by gangs and was finally considered a national symbol of the failure of modernism and urban renewal. For the World Trade Center of 1962, Yamasaki stated "..the WTC is modelled on the idea of global trade as a force for good." The complex was built with the aim of revitalizing Lower Manhattan and it drew on the 1939 New York World's Fair exhibit called the "World Trade Center", which was dedicated to the concept of achieving world peace through trade. Famed NYC architectural critic Ada Louise Huxtable began doubting the WTC's planned impact on Manhattan: her final review dismissed the design as 'Disneyland fairytale blockbuster' and 'General Motors Gothic' – incisively branded adjectives that carried all the weight and force of an elite East Coast critic dismissing Yamasaki's work as populist, provincial, and corporate. He died young at age 73 in 1986, never knowing of the WTC attack in 1991 and the tragedy of 2001.
