🚨 WHAT WAS THAT LOUD SOUND?! 🚨
Did you just hear a gunshot, explosion, or something that sounded like your house getting hit by a car… but nothing actually happened?
Don’t worry! your house probably isn’t under attack.
Your garage door spring just broke. 😅
Garage door springs are under EXTREME tension (hundreds of pounds). When they reach the end of their life, they can snap suddenly and when they do, it makes a very loud BANG that can echo through the whole house.
Most people immediately check:
• the water heater
• the electrical panel
• the backyard
• the roof
• the neighbor’s house
…and then finally notice the garage door won’t open.
So what causes a garage door spring to break?
There are really only two main reasons:
1️⃣ Life Cycles (The Most Common)
Garage door springs are rated for a certain number of open and close cycles (usually around 10,000).
If you open your door 3-5 times a day, that spring can wear out in 7–10 years.
Eventually… it just says “I’m done.”
2️⃣ Lack of Maintenance
Springs that aren’t lubricated can rust and wear out faster.
A little maintenance each year can help extend their life.
But even well-maintained springs will eventually break. it’s basically the garage door equivalent of a light bulb burning out.
IMPORTANT:
If your spring breaks, do not try to lift the door.
Your garage door weighs 150–300+ pounds, and the springs are what make it feel light. Without them, it’s basically dead weight.
And please don’t try to replace the springs yourself . They’re one of the most dangerous parts of a garage door system.
That’s where we come in. 👍

…it’s actually one of the most common garage door repairs we see.
