WAIT… YOU CAN’T PLANT TREES IN SUMMER?

Actually, some of the toughest trees we grow didn’t get that memo.

Every year, we hear from homeowners who are waiting for fall because they’ve been told summer is the wrong time to plant a tree.

That’s not entirely wrong. Fall is a great time to plant.

But it’s also true that many North Texas trees can be planted successfully throughout the summer when they have a healthy root system and receive proper watering after planting.

A few of our favorites:

Monterrey Oak — fast-growing, adaptable, and one of the best shade trees for North Texas.

Cedar Elm — a Texas native that’s incredibly tough and handles heat, drought, and clay soils with ease.

Mexican Sycamore — huge leaves, rapid growth, and shade in a hurry.

Bald Cypress — surprisingly adaptable and one of the most dependable trees we grow.

Crapemyrtles and Vitex — not shade trees exactly, but among the toughest flowering trees for Texas landscapes.

Texas Live Oak — evergreen, durable, compact, and built for Texas weather.

What matters far more than the month on the calendar is the tree type, quality of the root system, and how the tree is watered after planting.

Thinking about adding shade this summer?

We can help find the right tree.

𝐓𝐎𝐏 𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐀𝐂𝐘 𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐍𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐇 𝐓𝐄𝐗𝐀𝐒
Privacy has become one of the most requested landscape features in North Texas. Whether you're looking to block a neighbor's view, soften a fence line, create a backyard retreat, or screen a busy road, the right plants can make a dramatic difference.
𝐍𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐑. 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐲
One of the most popular privacy plants we grow. Nellies are evergreen, fast-growing, and dense enough to create an attractive living wall that provides year-round screening. They typically mature at 15–25 feet tall, making them an excellent choice for privacy between homes and along property lines.
𝐄𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐲
A beautiful evergreen with a more natural tree form. Eaglestons offer privacy, attractive gray-green foliage, and bright red berries that add interest throughout the year. They typically reach 15–20 feet tall, making them a great option when you want privacy without the look of a formal hedge.
𝐖𝐚𝐱 𝐌𝐲𝐫𝐭𝐥𝐞
If speed is your priority, Wax Myrtle deserves a serious look. It grows quickly, fills in well, and creates a softer, more natural privacy screen than many traditional hedge plants. Most Wax Myrtles mature at 10–20 feet tall, depending on pruning and growing conditions.
𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐫
One of the toughest privacy trees available for North Texas. Eastern Red Cedars provide year-round screening, tolerate heat and drought, and make an excellent choice for larger properties. Mature trees commonly reach 30–40 feet tall, creating a substantial evergreen screen.
𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐦 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐚
Little Gem Magnolias create a beautiful evergreen screen with glossy leaves and fragrant white blooms. Their dense foliage makes them a favorite for homeowners wanting both privacy and ornamental appeal. They generally mature at 15–20 feet tall.
Most of these privacy plants can be successfully planted throughout much of the year. Little Gem Magnolia is a bit less forgiving in the heat, so we generally recommend planting it during the cooler months of fall and winter.
The best privacy screens don't just block unwanted views—they create outdoor spaces that feel more comfortable, peaceful, and private. They can soften fences, reduce noise, create shade, and make a landscape feel more established.
If you're considering adding privacy to your landscape, we'd be happy to help you choose the right plants for your property.

How do Texas Sage plants know when it's going to rain? 🌿🌧️

If you've ever noticed a Texas Sage suddenly covered in purple blooms just before or after a rainstorm, you're not imagining things.

Texas Sage, often called the "barometer bush," has evolved to respond to changes in humidity and atmospheric conditions that occur before rainfall. As moisture levels in the air rise, the plant receives environmental cues that trigger a burst of flowering.

This adaptation helps Texas Sage take advantage of favorable conditions in the arid regions where it naturally grows. Rather than blooming on a strict seasonal schedule, it often waits for periods when water is more likely to be available.

While it doesn't actually predict the weather, Texas Sage is remarkably sensitive to its environment, turning changes in humidity into a spectacular display of purple blooms.

You know the one…
“Your landscaping needs attention.”

Translation?
👉 “Please fix that yard… soon.”

Here’s the mistake most homeowners make next:

They go looking for the fastest growing tree they can find.

Sounds right…
…but it’s actually how you end up right back in trouble a few years later.

🌳 The truth nobody tells you:

A tree doesn’t win the race because of what you see above ground…

👉 It wins because of what’s happening below the soil.

A cheap, fast-grown tree with a poor root system will:

Struggle to establish
Sit still for a year (or more)
Thin out or decline
And guess what… 👇
📬 Another HOA letter shows up
✔️ The smarter move:

Start with a tree that already has a strong, established root system

That tree will:

Take off faster after planting
Handle our North Texas heat better
Fill in quicker (yes… even faster than “fast growers”)
Actually solve the problem the first time
🌳 If you’re trying to:

✔️ Get the HOA off your back
✔️ Add real shade (not just a stick in the ground)
✔️ Upgrade your curb appeal

Then the root system matters more than the species.

💬 Message me if you want help picking the right tree for your yard—
I’ll point you to something that wins long-term, not just something that looks good on the tag.

💥 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐂𝐄𝐃𝐀𝐑 𝐄𝐋𝐌𝐒 – $𝟑𝟎 𝐏𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐎𝐎𝐓 💥

Most “local” nursery trees?
They’re not as local as you think…

A lot of them are grown way down in South Texas (or farther), then shipped up here and sold like they’re already adapted.

👉 Different soil
👉 Different climate
👉 Different conditions

And guess who pays for that adjustment period…

🌳 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄’𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐒𝐄 🌳

🌟 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐫 𝐄𝐥𝐦
🌟 Grown right here in 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐥, 𝐓𝐗 (North Texas blackland soil)
🌟 Already acclimated to our exact conditions

And here’s the big difference…

🚫 Not balled & burlapped (no major root loss)
✅ Roots intact and ready to grow immediately

💪 That means:
• Faster establishment
• Less transplant shock
• Trees that actually take off instead of just surviving

These don’t sit still after planting… they 𝐡𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠.

👨‍🌾 Come out, walk the rows, and pick your exact tree
🤝 Buy direct from the farmer — no middleman

📏 Sold by the foot – pick your size
🌳 One of the toughest, most reliable shade trees you can plant in North Texas

⚠️ Limited supply – I only have what I’ve grown

📩 Message us for an appointment to choose your tree.
Most can be harvested and ready quicker than you think.
