There is much to be thankful for this morning, but there is also a lot of cleanup and recovery ahead for many in our community. Thinking of all those affected by last night’s tornado.🤍

If your cannas have slowed down on blooms, take a look at the flower stalks.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is leaving the seed pods in place after the flowers fade. The plant starts putting energy into making seeds instead of producing more blooms.

Simply snip off the spent bloom or seed pod right below it. Don’t remove the entire flower stalk though because there are often more blooms developing further down that same stem.

As for the foliage, I only remove leaves that are yellow, brown, or damaged.

A few seconds of maintenance here and there can make a big difference in how your cannas perform throughout the season.😊

We finally did it🙌

For the last couple years we’ve talked about adding drip irrigation to our garden beds and if I’m being honest, I think we put it off because it felt intimidating. We didn’t know much about it and it seemed like one more project to figure out.

Turns out, it’s actually a lot simpler than we made it out to be.

This reel is just a quick look at the process, but we’ll be sharing a more detailed YouTube video soon where Chris can walk through exactly how we set it up and answer some of the questions we had before getting started.

And before anyone asks or comments, no the tubing isn’t staying visible. Now that everything is installed, we can finally get the beds mulched and those lines will disappear underneath the mulch.

I’m already looking forward to less hand watering and more consistent moisture for these plants this summer.

Sometimes the projects you avoid the longest end up being the easiest ones. (Notice the word sometimes 🤪)

Note: Silver Lining Artemisia is not an annual. I just wanted to point it out because I get questions on it all the time.
