Gardener Friends,
What is your best place to source the seeds?
Here are few tricks that I follow:
#1. Check within your friend circle. Local and free and you can offer to exchange some seeds from your collection.
#2. eBay - search for seed you want and then sort by distance. This gets you the seeds which are grown successfully in your area. Once you find the closest seller, you might check what all other seeds that seller is offering. Might save some $$ buying multiple seeds.
#3 - FB Marketplace and narrow down your search to local. So you know you are buying from some one locally, some may still worth paying shipping than driving long distance.
(There are many frauds going on these days on FB, so when in doubt don’t buy from them and use payment method which you can dispute, don’t rely on FB protection)
#3. Dollar tree shop .
They usually will have lesser seeds. Some works great, as you don’t need too many seeds (eg flower or some veggie which you only need 2-3 plants to grow). Some you want to try and not sure if you may get success.
#4 Other retail store - I would go with them for one which needs more seeds or you already tested few from dollar stores.
Eg Peas, carrots, radishes, spinach, radishes etc You need them more, if you want them good harvest.
#5. Online - limitless options.
If you are reading this post, you already know how to search where. Specific Indian seeds might need specific Indian seller.
#6 Don’t buy something which is getting delivered from outside of US.
Price or variety of seeds might be tempting, but I wouldn’t waste my time and money for something which might not be even legal.
Do your own research online. Make YouTube your friend to know how to germinate seeds you bought for first time.
Fall planting season has started. Follow calendar to know what needs to be planted when. Here is the link from Almanac:
