Here's the registration link for either in-person or online. If that's not your cup of tea, I'll be doing two others this summer. Check 'em out!

Lichens may look like tiny plants, but they’re actually a clever partnership at work. Each one is a team — algae making food from sunlight, fungi providing structure and protection — surviving together where few things can.

Some look like flaky paint splashed on rocks. Others spread in soft leafy ruffles. And some hang in stringy strands like green hair from tree branches. Quietly, all of them help filter and clean the air around us.

Once you learn what lichens are, you can’t unsee them. They’re everywhere — just waiting to be noticed. [y2oe6]

“So often, common names of native plants do no justice to their attributes. But American Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana) is an exception, as its name aptly reflects its vibrant, iridescent purple berries.” — Tim Castelli.

American Beautyberry is a perennial shrub with white-pink blooms that turn into amazing purple, and sometimes white, clusters of berries on long, arching stems. While the pollinators enjoy the flowers, small mammals and birds are attracted to the iridescent fruit.

A great understory shrub, the American Beautyberry is well suited for a woody, partial shady spot in your landscape. The raw berries are edible but only small amounts are recommended. The berries are used in jellies and roots for herbal tea.
