With the heavy snow accumulations it is important to keep snow clear of furnace power vent units to prevent a carbon monoxide incident or possible fire. Many power vent units are mounted low to the ground and can easily become covered and blocked by snow. This will cause furnace exhaust to back up inside the residence. Don’t wait. Check your power vent now!

Came across this expansion tank still in service at an old house this week. It’s about 6’ long and strapped between the rafters. I remember draining tanks like this when I was an apprentice for Roger Chabot- Chabot Oil while still in high school. We also worked on upright Thrush circulator pumps back then. Hard to believe these big old tanks were replaced with a 4 gallon sealed tank with an airbag inside them. Definitely brings back memories.

The State of Connecticut has mandated a minimum of 10% biofuel mix in all heating oil as of July 1st. This makes it even more important to have your burner serviced and adjusted correctly for the fuel change. Some oil companies are blending 20% and higher. This could have an effect on how much fuel you burn. Check your delivery tickets to know how much biofuel is added to your delivery.

With the quality of fuel we are getting, your filter could look like this if it isn’t cleaned and replaced annually. Even if you are late with getting on the schedule for service, call for an appointment so you don’t have this situation to deal with.
