You’ve probably guessed this is Jesus at this point!

A painting like this goes on in multiple layers so here I’m blocking in the colors. Because I use oil paint I have to wait several days between layers or it all blends together. Which is sometimes good but in this case I want dry solid layers that I can build on.

Next I’ll start on the face and that’s when I really comes alive. Especially with the eyes!

My latest painting that I’m working on, commissioned by a client in KY.

The next step is adding color blocking and then filling in all of the details. One step at a time!

Renovating the new studio!

I haven’t posted in a bit because and I moved to Ga this summer and we’ve been getting the house ready.

Today I got to break away from everything and hang drywall in our new studio space!

I’m super excited to have a full size space to create art and art tutorials. More on that coming soon.

This is what it looks like when I stock up on canvases (with my wife) for classes, events, and commissions. Something like 150 canvases all at once!

Got to do something cool today. I did these 3 paintings last year for Chris and today I got to frame them!

I just love the way a painting (or three!) is improved by a subtle frame. It really takes it from good to great.

PS this painting series is imagery from the book of Job. Any guesses which verses inspired these?!

This is my favorite from W***ys gallery wall. I love how it brings in the history of Butte, strong composition, beautiful mountains (a personal fav), and a bit of playfulness with the signs.

Cool fact! At this point, if you're standing at this structure you are a mile above sea level. If you were to take this mining elevator down to the bottom, it goes a mile down! 🤯

I had no idea mining elevators went so deep!

I got to install this super cool gallery wall arrangement for W***y from today! Each of these paintings is from a place, a memory, or a moment that is dear to him. So fun to be a part of making these paintings and seeing the smile on his face when he saw them. He kept gushing that he loved them 🥲. Its such an honor to work with you on these W***y!

And then it's not all roses today. I spent the rest of my afternoon going to save my wife who's car mysteriously overheated on the other side of town while I was out. Life happens, right?!

A big congratulations to my wife ! Today we installed our largest painting to date, a whopping 6 feet wide! We had to rent a box truck just to get it there. Looks fantastic though!

We forgot to get a pic with him but the client loved it ❤️

On the easel tonight

This is a mining gallow in Butte Montana. These cool contraptions were essentially a large elevator used in copper mining. They're no longer in service (at least I don't think any are) but have become a landmark in the area. This one has writing on the front of the white building which I'll add once the first layer of oil paint is dry.
