This Colorado hillside home had pavers here, rock there… and patio GAPS everywhere. 🧩

So we sketched the fix right on top of the property survey. ✏️👇

This Broomfield backyard has a BIG problem. 😬

The retaining walls are SHIFTING, the base is crumbling, the paver patio is SINKING, and the steps are cracked and too narrow. 👇

Here's the plan for this hardscape rebuild:

✅ Tear out every unstable retaining wall
✅ Rebuild the walls TALLER and solid
✅ WIDER outdoor stairs + a new railing

"We had a little MISHAP." 😬

Here's what happened next. 👇

Lisa in Denver hired GKC for a custom fence: not a standard design, with specialized materials.

When the stain color came out wrong, she raised a concern. Dave came out "the second" she did and had the right stain applied, redone in a very timely manner.

Then her dogs tore up the backyard grass, and she came back to GKC for a design. 🐕

This Denver retaining wall was ROTTING, gapping and starting to LEAN. 😬

Old timber walls don't last forever. So we tore it ALL out and rebuilt it RIGHT. 👇

✅ Every rotted timber removed
✅ Dug down to solid ground for a real base
✅ Drain pipe + clean gravel behind the wall 💧
✅ Geogrid tying the wall INTO the hill
✅ Drain vents so water gets OUT, not trapped
✅ Stepped caps that follow the slope 📐

The stuff you'll never see is what makes a wall LAST. 🧱

A retaining wall is only as strong as what's UNDER it. 🧱

Here's how we build ours 👇

1️⃣ Take the old wall down to the dirt
2️⃣ Scoop it, get it flat and COMPACT it
3️⃣ Road base down, get it wet, and compact it AGAIN, until it's solid like concrete
4️⃣ Set the blocks and get the DRAINAGE in
5️⃣ Second row, and up she goes

The part nobody sees is the part that matters MOST. 💪
