The TLP Ice Team wrapped up its 2026 ice season at the WIFA State event in Wausau. Our kids battled extremely hard both Friday and Saturday, working to track down fish on waters we had very little knowledge of, while also adjusting to rules and boundaries that continued to change throughout the week as Mother Nature shifted us from spring back to winter.
We finished in the middle of a very competitive 105-team field, filling two of the five categories. The teams at the top were able to fill all of their categories. A great reminder of how challenging this event truly is.
I would like to congratulate and thank our seniors: Mason, Cruz, Matthew, Sawyer, CJ, Greyson, and Hailie for a great career on the ice. This group made up a large portion of our team and will be difficult to replace, but they’ve set a strong example for those coming up behind them.
I also want to thank both school districts and our communities for their continued support of this club. A special thank you to parent volunteers Robby Andersen and Andy Regenfuss. Without their extra time, effort, and connections to equipment, this weekend and many others would have looked very different.
Lastly, thank you to the Three Lakes Fish and Wildlife Association and the Phelps Convenience Center for their assistance with bait, food, gas, and other supplies that make weekends like this possible. The support of these businesses and individuals is what keeps this program going.
Till next year — tight lines, boys and girls!

Yesterday concluded our last regular season tournament in a head to head competition on the Minocqua chain taking 3rd place! The kids worked extremely hard Cruz and Mathew even put in extra hour in on Friday in that nasty cold and wind looking for fish. Kids were up early as we were on the ice by 6:30 am and fished right up to the final bell at 2:30 pm. Bentley Bills had the biggest perch of the tournament and Isaiah Perlewitz and really nice smallmouth at 18.75.

I want to thank Andy Regenfuss, Robby Andersen and Thomas Kolling for all helping get kids out and trying to track down enough inches. We now look and prepare for the state tournament on Feb 20/21st.

Thank you to Phelps Convenience Center for supporting the TLP ice fishing team and all of the bait this weekend, and Three Lakes Fish & Wildlife Association to provide a warm meal on the ice on a cold winter day!

It is that time of year again when high school ice fishing teams, including Three Lakes/Phelps, participate in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association. Yesterday, our team took to the ice with the objective of exceeding 300 inches of total fish in the first state qualifying event. As this is a virtual event, schools are permitted to travel anywhere in the state, although it is likely that most teams stay close to their home water, which they are most familiar with. We achieved the highest score north of Highway 29, with 319.25 inches, while Osceola, last year's state champions, were the only other team north of 29 to break 300 inches. Shawano also achieved this feat, although they are located on the boundary. Students were allowed to register 7 gamefish and 13 panfish in an effort to reach 300 inches. Collectively, we caught approximately 75 fish, scoring our best 20. It is evident that there are numerous large pike in the southern part of the state. Our team faced adverse conditions, including slush throughout the Northwoods, which hindered mobility, but we still managed to achieve our goal. The students will have the opportunity to rest next weekend, and hopefully, the lakes will freeze more solidly, enabling us to pursue the next event the following weekend. I would like to extend my gratitude to my volunteers, and the Three Lakes Fish & Wildlife Improvement Association . Scotties Bait and Tackle 3 Lakes WI The program is the biggest it has ever been.

It’s the offical end of the 24-25 Three Lakes/Phelps ice season has come to an end. We put together a respectable 23rd place finish in LaCrosse on Lake Onalaska, Saturday. Having never fished it and only 5 hours of prefishing we did remarkably well considering most teams had experience on this body of water from 2019. I would like to thank the Three Lakes Fish & Wildlife Improvement Association @, Scotties Bait Scotties Bait and Tackle 3 Lakes WI, and the volunteers that I had working with these kids this season of Andy Regenfuss, Robby Andersen and Al Votis that have made this a great season. Looking forward to hearing where next year’s state location is going to be held.

The second WIFA tournament is in the books for Three Lakes Phelps Ice Team. We started early and worked a better part of the day in the cold and wind. A preliminary finish of 5th place, well done! State in a few weeks.
