Not sure how much soil your raised bed needs? We can help. 🌱

One of the most common questions we get is:
“How many bags do I need?”

The good news: you do not have to guess.

For a full fill, the basic formula is:

Length × Width × Depth = cubic feet

For example, a 4 ft × 8 ft raised bed filled 12 inches deep needs about 32 cubic feet of soil.

If you are only topping off an existing bed, refreshing tired soil, or adding a few inches before planting, you may need much less.

We have organic raised bed mix available for pickup at Summer Creek Farm in Thurmont, and we are happy to help estimate what you need before you make the trip.

Summer Job / Part-Time Farm Help Needed ASAP

Looking for a fun, active, hands-on job this season? Summer Creek Farm in North Thurmont is hiring 3 part-time farm hands to join our awesome team.

This is a great opportunity for students looking for summer work, active adults, or anyone who enjoys working outside and wants to learn real farm skills on a successful, 35-year working organic farm.

The work includes picking produce in the field, packing and loading orders, helping with general farm tasks, lifting and moving materials, and supporting the daily operations of a busy organic farm. Farm experience is helpful, but not required — we are happy to train the right people.

Schedule:
Monday, Thursday, and Friday
8:30 AM – approximately 3:00/3:30 PM

Starting Pay:
$17/hour to start, with the opportunity for an increase once reliability, work ethic, and value are demonstrated.

This is a physical outdoor position. Applicants should be dependable, comfortable working outside in farm conditions, able to stay active throughout the day, and able to lift 50+ lbs when needed.
