About our Business
“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.” –Pablo Picasso

Wood Working has become like a type of therapy for me. I go to the workshop daily to create, to build, to “wash the dust of daily life off…” I get a sense of peace and joy from creating and perfecting a piece of furniture. I can’t really explain why I decided to build furniture…I just started

building one day and fell in love with it. I do have wood working in my genes, though I began my journey as a craftsman in the floor and tiling business started by my grandfather. He passed the family business down to my father, and I began, as a teenager, working alongside my father. However, after approximately 20 years in the tile and flooring trade, I began to sense that I was not truly living out my calling. I eventually made the agonizingly difficult decision to leave the family business with no clue as to what I would do. A few months later Anchor Plank Wood Works was born. Anchor Plank Wood Works is committed to creating furniture and décor that is aesthetically unique and high in quality. We take pride in perfecting each piece to ensure visual appeal and durability. Each product is handcrafted from wood (both reclaimed and new), and many are an integration of wood with metal. We accept custom orders as well. About the Name
Anyone who knows me, knows that I love the salt. Next to wood working, fishing is one of my biggest passions. My family, friends, and I have joked on many fishing expeditions about “the pirate life”, and my father has jokingly referred to me as “son of a pirate”. So when my wife told me that she felt like “Anchor” was meant to be in our name, I obviously didn’t object. She told me that she kept seeing anchors everywhere and felt led to make this part of the name. Incredibly, we discovered through our research of the anchor, that it was once a symbol of Christian Faith before even the cross. This added new meaning and depth to the name for us. As for the “plank”…well, a plank is obviously a large, sturdy piece of wood which reinforces the message that our products are built to last. And, no, we weren’t thinking that we would make our customers “walk the plank”, though we do enjoy pirate talk! We honestly just thought it sounded really cool: Anchor Plank.

A beautiful dining table made of Red oak. Soon to go to it’s forever home. 100 percent handmade from the floor up. The leg style on this table really grew on me as I was turning them. The more I saw them, the more they drew me in. This piece is definitely not lacking for character. A new age heirloom, that will host And hold lots of memories in the days ahead.

A finished set of oak spindle table legs, for a dining table build, ready to be mated to the aprons. Made of quarter sawn red oak. I’m Really feeling the style of these legs the more time I spend with them. They remind me of an Old English style of some sort out of the 19th century. Can’t wait to see this piece come together

Been busy prepping and gluing up these red oak dining table legs to turn. This particular build called for the design that is seen on the printer paper in the background. Having nothing but a picture in my phone to refer to, I printed this picture to try to break the leg down, to get it laid out so that everything flowed smoothly. It can always be challenging trying to turn a leg from scratch with no scaled version of it, when someone wants a very specific style. Patience is key. Once you have the first leg mapped out and then finally turned, you can reference the rest of them off of it. This oak has some really nice grain to it. Loving the style of these legs as well!! A Black walnut table and benches from scratch. settled in the perfect spot in a cabin recently. Two matching benches in pair with the base. 💯 percent handmade. And made with love, from the turned legs, to the top, from the floor up. I LOVE having the opportunity to bring an idea to life.

More pics of the workbench/out feed table coming together. Going into this project I had a vision but not a solid plan. This is a personal build for myself, so most mistakes were easily accepted. I added profiles to several of the stretchers, and bc of lack of prior planning, when mating them to the square notches of the legs/base , the profiles stood out even more. So it led to more profiling to try to blend it out. And in the end I just finally settled on it. Function over form on this piece. After all I will be working off of it daily. Lots of things I’d of done differently, but that’s the beauty of it. I made mental notes after the fact. I don’t have a true weight of this piece just yet, but we’re guessing it to be less than 800 lbs. as a whole. Over the weekend I installed workbench casters rated at 880 lbs. So far they’re toting the load when all are engaged.

More progress pics on the workbench build for my cabinet saw, that will double as an outfeed table. They may not seem overly large in pics, but these are some of the largest mortises And tenons I’ve ever made on a given project. Part of the base was constructed with full lap joints. And pegged. That was the original plan for the whole base , but we built this one as we went, with a plan in mind, and didn’t consider several possible things. So here is where the mortises and tenons came into play. If there’s anything I’ve learned in woodworking. one is patience, above them all. Secondly is being able to adapt from what was planned, And make it work.

I just looked and realized that it’s been almost two months since I’ve shared any woodworking content. Unfortunately Covid introduced itself to our family in the recent weeks, and the past several weeks have been a blur to say the least. We are all finally well, and on the backside of it these days. And very fortunate, as some others have had it so much worse, and aren’t so fortunate. Here’s some pine that came from Local trees in our community of Tifton , in the area of the old Annie Belle Clark school. I went and picked up and sawed these logs myself. With different plans for them at the time. The wood has been air drying for about 3 years now. I recently needed the use for a doubled outfeed table/ work bench for my cabinet saw. And I finally saw a use for this wood. It was in rough sawn form about a week ago, but is slowly transitioning into a functional piece that will hopefully outlast myself.
