We spotted our second Luna Moth of the week! He was tucked under the porch steps last night. Their presence is associated with a healthy woodland habitat, native trees, and a thriving ecosystem - exactly the kind of environment that I hope to nurture here on our homestead. ✌️ ❤️ 🦋

🌶️ Something spicy is coming…

The jalapeños are growing and it looks like they will be the first fresh produce available this season. They are still small, but we are getting close!

I’ve been watching these little peppers go from seed to blossom to beautiful fruits. I will be excited to finally share a small harvest with you! If all goes well, fresh jalapeños will be available soon for your salsa, poppers, pickles, and more!

If you are a history nerd like me, you might find this interesting…
Bull Nose Bell Peppers are one of the oldest documented sweet bell peppers grown in the USA. They were widely grown in the 1700s-1800s. Thomas Jefferson grew them at Monticello and journaled about them. His garden journals are still used today by historians and heirloom growers interested in historic plantings.
Bull Nose Bells are sweeter, thicker, smaller, and less uniform than a modern bell pepper.
I’m excited to be growing a pepper variety that is documented as being over 200 years old. 🇺🇸 🫑

Remember those seeds I posted a picture of the other day? Well, they are Swiss Chard and here’s the update… 🌱
What looks like a single seed is actually a seed “cluster.” This means one cluster can produce multiple sprouts in the same spot. So, I am seeing little groups of 2 to 3 seedlings popping up in the tray.
These seeds were planted on Memorial Day and this is what they looked like on Tuesday, just 8 days later. They are on their way and will spend the next couple of weeks getting stronger before I transplant them into the garden beds and farm rows.

The peppers are growing, the tomatoes are setting fruit, the squash is blooming, and harvest season is getting closer every day.

This summer I hope to offer a limited number of farm bags and produce preorders featuring fresh vegetables, homemade baked goods, jams, and more.
