A leaking 💦 2nd floor shower 🚿 stall is where this story begins!!

Our Reel will take you through the finer points of this job but this recently purchased home and it's owners needed our help badly!!
These recent new homeowners hired an electrician to add 8 recessed pancake lights in the living room.
The Electrician did his best to patch the multiple ceiling 🕳️'s (which was quite impressive actually because the cust. is usually left with holes) ...but there's a reason electricians don't do drywall finishing.🤫
This customer unfortunately had a bigger problem. ⁉️ The leaking 💦 second floor shower 🚿 stall have compromised the entire length of one end of the ceiling.
In addition, the master bath ceiling was suffering from damaged drywall , peeling and flaking paint from excessive moisture (poorly working exhaust fans or exhaust fans with not enough CFMs or not vented correctly through the roof or the side of the house, vent not insulated correctly, excessively long showers can all be the culprit!!).. You would be surprised how many bathroom fans vent directly into the open attic space. Totally wrong. We Rcmnd checking that your fans are vented properly!
Back to the story..
customer for sure wanted us to handle the bathroom walls and ceiling.
Their initial plan was for us to only repair the living room ceiling below with two coats of paint after primer of all ceiling repairs.
They had planned to paint the living room themselves.
We offered them a very fair deal for us just to finish the entire room since we were already there which they excitedly accepted!!
They also added a vaulted peak in the kitchen that was suffering from settling cracks along the wall seam (normal) which we cosmetically addressed. (Unfortunately we can only offer a limited warranty on settling cracks as the house is continuing to move They will more than likely return)

After cutting out all the wet and affected ceiling drywall and double checking with our moisture meter (see reel) that we had gotten it all (does your refinisher do that) patching and priming commenced.
We returned the following day to finish The two coat crosshatch of the ceiling followed by two coats on the walls with all repairs and full baseboard and trim to wall recaulking.

Our new customers were so happy with our work through our conversation they discovered we also can help them with their leaking shower issue. We're going to return to discuss possible repairs only of the lower two feet of the shower stall and also offer them a plan to completely gut and redo their entire shower stall!!

First project of 2026... Two day tour of one of our favorite projects in the town of Plainfield!!

🚧 BASEMENT CEILING BLACKOUT 🚧

✅ Just a little bit of prep on this one as the Basement concrete walls were already painted white which means FULL prep and Protect!!
👊Lots of prep and detail work making sure the paint went ONLY where it was supposed to go!
Miles of conduit , HVAC and ductwork.
If another finisher tells you it's easy, believe that his work will reflect his low price because it's anything but easy.
⚒️Furniture in the basement made for an interesting project.
💡Always fun when the electrician adds a few lights (16 cans)
Just a few of the challenges that many other refinishers would have walked away from which we believe they may have.

🫟 🎨 We stepped up on this one, put in the overtime, sprayed 15 gallons of a flat black ultra spec Benjamin Moore and magically 🎩🪄 finished this one on schedule and
🕦 on time in the 2 days that we promised so the customers son could get back into his room.

The debate marches forward:

Quality? Or Price?

We have all heard the saying
"you get what you pay for"

We all know it. We all know better. Yet all of us at one time or another have rolled the dice and chose the risks that come with "the cheaper choice" and have to admit more times than not it doesn't work out and costs more to have the project redone.

We recently received a concern regarding one of our highly detailed and itemized estimates and I feel its worth a mention. In our highly detailed and itemized estimate that includes not only the time and travel of our FREE consultation, but also comes with our expertise in project design recommendations, product and supplier options, color choices and even help finding other highly skilled & trusted colleagues if our potential customers have wants or needs that we do not specialize in.

This posts' inspiration is from a potential new customer who was unclear and "bothered" about why we add a $50.00 per color cleanout charge when more than 2 wall colors are chosen.
The first 2 wall colors are included.
The customer felt we were "upcharging" adding a "hidden fee" which was openly stated right there in our highly detailed estimate. Regardless the customer didn't choose us as their finisher.
This has me wondering??
How many people check their yearly physical tax bills? How many people check their monthly phone bill, water bill, IPASS bill, cable bill, gas bill, electric bill, car insurance, and on and on and on. The bottom of those bills contain a multitude of additional taxes, charges, fees, disposal, handling , recycling fee (OH!!! which Illinois as of 2026 has added a $1.00 tax to EVERY gallon of paint for "recycling" tax...yeah, right)
you name it... The fee is in there.
With NO explanation given other than just to upcharge the bill.
No questions asked.
We just pay it.
So...
This got me thinking about our
"unseen routine" that customers don't think about...and why would you?
The "behind the scenes", if you will, after the last 10-12 hr day on the project, all the furniture is put back, all sweeping or spot mopping of floors, going over every square inch making sure everything is cleaner than the day we started.
When our trucks are finally loaded and we are driving back at 8pm at night. We don't go home. We go back to the warehouse to unload sprayers, hoses, brushes, rollers covers, buckets, etc.
Because we do not do cleanouts at a customers home. That would be unprofessional and what you would expect from the "cheaper choice"
While the customer is settling in for the night. That $50.00 cleanout per color
(after 2 colors) Covers the arduous process of cleaning out a small sample of what you see here in this picture.
Average cleanout of a paint sprayer: 1 hour with about 25 gallons of water to flush it correctly. Then treated so it stays lubed and is ready for the next project.
Cleaning , scrubbing of all equipment, with different color setups for each and every color that was used on the project.
If this $50.00 qualifies as "upcharging"
(rmbr after the first 2 colors) and you feel it is "unreasonable" or "misleading" to add this to our estimate...We feel the amount of our free time and energy that you wasted through the estimate process is also "unreasonable" and "misleading".

To our beloved repeat customers... We actually end up waving this fee as a symbol of our loyalty and thanks for your trust with your return business. Because in the end...it's about the relationships and even the friendships we have made. Yes we all need money to live and Businesses need profit to stay open. But it's the long term relationships that allow us to live and thrive and endure.

This is a reminder.

Today we would like to thank our friends and music venue colleagues at the infamous Tavern and music venue in Crestwood!! We were more than happy to help refinish the interior sides of their rear metal security doors. Like most projects, and transformers , more than meets the eye!! Battling the ambient and door temps is very tricky and knowledge of product and correct application procedures will 💯 make or break a project like this.
✅ Full prep and protect the surrounding area
✅ Full sanding and degreasing procedures followed. Removal of all Scotch tape residue and glue is critical.
✅ Taping off of sensors door handles and the surrounding frames.
✅ Proper warm up and temperature control of the doors. Primer was not required as these doors have been previously painted gray
✅ Two coats of a high quality DTM oil base exterior paint (Even though we did it on the inside)
🤟 Now it's time for some high quality H2O

Reslatted Woodworks, LLC and Rocknrollers Painting & Tile Services final tag team build of the year..and we simply crushed this!!
3 MAJOR upgrades in 1.5 days??
INCONCEIVABLE!!!
All hands on deck for this one in time for Christmas 🎄 as requested.
✅ Main Stairwell Board and Batten upgrade built to mimic and disappear those bad framing and drywall seams.
✅ Full basement pool / game area (LOTS of dings) repairs with Board and Batten accent topped with custom stained decorative/drink ledge
✅ Full rustic Bar area wrap
✅ TV mounted

All in 1.5 days.

Rocknrollers Painting & Tile Services once again thanks our Return customers and Friends Tom & Gay from Palos heights and of course, Barney🐶 , our supervisor for this project which was 4 paw 🐾 approved!!
Thank you to Lea S. Morsovillo and Glenn Kraemer for referring us after we had helped with their condominium refinishing project after being left unsatisfied by their initial painter. We made things right and they knew we would do the same for anyone they referred us to.
We actually met With Tom and Gay to discuss this project over a year ago.
Their top priority was quality over pricing but still being sensitive to budget like many consumers today
Skeptical....they tried us out first on their garage Makeover last summer 🌞⛱️ where we earned every bit of their trust and proved we were worth the investment on the larger project.
A project of this scale with the amount of plaster and drywall repairs , spraying doors, casings and baseboards while the home is occupied is a challenge all on its own.
But we get it done.
Cleanly, safely, quickly, thoroughly just as promised.
This was also our first project utilizing the Upgraded Fittes Vent returns adding a Very sleek and modern look to an already beautiful space.
We can do the same for you!!
We will be returning next spring to finish other portions of their home and some ceiling drywall leak repairs in the finished basement.
