So when going out to feed and water the chickens today, all the guineas where on top of the chicken pen which is normal for them when it's this cold. As I rounded the corner of the pen I discovered there was an adult Cooper's hawk sitting on the pen with them that flew off when it seen me.
I've had Cooper's hawk land on the pens before, but to do it with the guineas there.....this blew my mind.

While taking care of the birds yesterday I discovered this little winter gem.....keep it warm momma.

From mighty oaks to resilient hickories, nuts are more than food — they’re keystones of entire ecosystems.

• Walnuts & Hickories – Support wildlife with nutrient-dense food and produce high-quality hardwood.
• Hazelnuts – Small but mighty, these provide habitat and food for birds and small mammals.
• Beech & Oaks – Acorns and beechnuts fuel deer, squirrels, and countless woodland creatures.
• Buckeyes & Horse Chestnut – Often admired for beauty, though not all are edible for humans.
• Ginkgo & Blue Beech – Ancient survivors that enrich biodiversity and thrive across regions.

🌿 Each species plays a role — feeding pollinators, enriching soils, and sustaining forests. Knowing them helps us protect both food sources and heritage trees for future generations.
