Office Administrator (1099 Contractor) – Flexible Hybrid Role

Compensation: $20–$32 per hour (depending on experience)

The Merritt Group is a residential custom home builder and remodeler focused on high-quality craftsmanship, organization, and a strong client experience. We are seeking a dependable, detail-driven Office Administrator to support our daily operations as we continue to grow.
This is a contractor position with flexible hours and partial remote work, ideal for a highly organized professional who can work independently and support a fast-moving construction environment.
Job Summary
The Office Administrator will manage a wide range of administrative, bookkeeping, scheduling, and coordination tasks to ensure efficient business operations. The ideal candidate is proactive, structured, and able to communicate professionally across clients, subcontractors, and internal team members.
Responsibilities
Administrative & Office Support
• Manage company calendars, appointments, and scheduling for leadership and subcontractors.
• Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems for project documents, invoices, and contracts.
• Assist with phone management, client communication, and front-desk responsibilities during on-site hours.
• Oversee office supplies, equipment, and general office upkeep.
Bookkeeping & Financial Tasks
• Assist with invoicing, vendor payments, receipt organization, and expense tracking.
• Support accounts payable/receivable workflows and basic job-cost documentation.
• Use QuickBooks for bookkeeping and payroll support.
Project & Vendor Coordination
• Communicate with subcontractors, trade partners, and vendors to maintain project momentum.
• Assist with procurement tasks and vendor onboarding.
• Prepare materials for internal meetings, project updates, and operations reviews.
HR & Compliance Assistance
• Support onboarding processes for subcontractors and 1099 staff.
• Maintain confidential personnel and contractor files.
• Assist with policy updates and compliance tracking.
Event & Meeting Support
• Coordinate logistics for company meetings, trainings, and special events.
• Help prepare agendas, summaries, and documentation as needed.
Qualifications
Required
• Proven experience in office administration, office management, or executive assistance.
• Strong communication skills and professional phone etiquette.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
• Experience with QuickBooks, scheduling tools, and digital document systems.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
• Self-directed with strong attention to detail.
Preferred
• Experience in construction, home building, remodeling, or field-service industries.
• Familiarity with project coordination, vendor management, or permitting workflows.
• Supervisory experience is a plus.
• Event planning or HR/general operations background.
Work Environment
• Hybrid role: combination of remote work and on-site support as needed.
• Flexible weekly schedule, but must be available during standard business hours for time-sensitive tasks.
• Contractor (1099) position with potential for expanded hours, payroll, & benefits as the business grows.
