There's one mulch we reach for above all others — and it's pine straw. 🌿

It stays light and airy, keeps soil cool through the worst of summer, and it's the only mulch you can safely pull right up against the base of your plants without trapping moisture where it doesn't belong. W**d seeds get caught in it before they ever reach the soil, so they simply can't germinate.

And the concern we hear most? That it'll acidify your soil. It won't. Fifty years of research out of Georgia backs that up — once pine straw is dried and brown, it's close to neutral. It's even safe around azaleas, camellias, hydrangeas, and berry plants.

Lay it down about 3 inches thick. It looks a little messy at first, but after the first rain it settles into a soft brown carpet under everything.
