And for the ethnobotanical/oddity plant collectors, I’ll be bringing 2x 1 gallon nursery pots of Phalaris arundinacea ‘Big Medicine’ clone to the market also. It takes direct sun here in the desert while I grow it semi aquatic aquatic. It’s hardy and grows in regular soil too..just enjoys water. ’Big Medicine’ clone is 1 of 3 different Phalaris sp. grass clones I grow. ‘Big Medicine’ was selected for being extra strong! P. arundinacea is known (and famous amount kitchen chemist) for containing one of the purest forms of N, N DMT! Soooo… don’t eat it or let your pets/livestock eat it!

With Halloween quickly approaching, I figured I’d “feature” the Ghost Plant (Graptopetalum paraguayense) succulents! A very easy to grow plant. They love to spill out of their pots (and looking great while doing it)- which makes them a great candidate for hanging baskets. When a leaf snaps off or a branch gets broken- no worries- branches and leafs root SUPER easy… which means you’ll have plenty of Ghost Plants started to gift to friends/family in no time! I’ll have them this Saturday at the Bisbee Saturday Market!

The Palo Verde seeds that I posted a while back are doing great. These are the “Desert Museum” cultivar- a cross the museum perfected years ago- larger & longer lasting flowers, etc. I also started a tray of Blue Palo Verdes (Arizona’s Staye Tree).

The monsoons have really hit SE AZ hard the season! I potted up a bunch of 1gal asst. Opuntia (Prickley Pear cactus) and Aloe maculata (the soap aloe or zebra aloe). It is a Southern African species of aloe but used extensively in SW landscaping due to its hardiness. These came from a patch growing in a lady’s Sierra Vista, AZ, yard (usda zone 8b).

Everything is being grown outdoors in Tombstone - in a mix of native soils (with some basic topsoil mixed in) so they don’t skip a beat if planted in your yard. No pampering needed!

I guess they’re almost ready for the farmers market soon!

Any friends in the area (or passing through) that need any water wise, tough plants for your landscape- these are it. I have all the species also planted in our landscape.
