It is recommended to protect perennials that have spring growth when there is a threat of a severe temperature decline or when frost is expected. Tonight we are expecting lows of 15 degrees, with a high of 32 degrees tomorrow. 🥶❄️

🌱A quick Google search will provide solutions and information to help you decide what plant material is at risk. Please decide if any of these Google tips would be helpful in protecting your plant material during the freezing temperatures

Coverings: Use blankets, burlap, tarps, or specialized frost cloth to trap heat, ensuring they reach the ground. Do not use plastic directly against foliage, as it can burn plants when the sun hits.

Insulation: Apply a 2–4 inch layer of mulch around the base of perennials to keep the soil warm.

Watering: Water the soil thoroughly in the late afternoon before a freeze, as moist soil holds more heat.

Temporary Protection: For potted perennials or early emerging plants (like Hosta or Bleeding Hearts), place pots inside or place buckets/totes over them, removing them in the morning.

Timing: Remove covers the next day once temperatures rise above freezing.

Damage Control: Avoid pruning or fertilizing plants immediately after a freeze, as this can encourage new growth that is susceptible to the next cold snap.

As business owners, it's easy to get caught up in daily tasks and forget to take a moment for ourselves. That's why this June, we intentionally stepped away for a quiet and refreshing weekend. During our getaway, we found ourselves drawn to beautiful gardens, including Powell Gardens Kansas City's Botanical Garden, Free State Greenhouse, and Colonial Gardens. Our stay at the unique Unity Village hotel offered a chance for time to slow down. As we admired the lovely hotel garden, our attention was captivated by the American flag dancing beautifully in the bright blue sky. It was such a striking sight that I had to capture it. Watching the flag and listening to the fountains, I reflected on how incredibly blessed we are to serve God, to be happily married for 33 years, and to have a loving and supportive family. I have always recognized and appreciated the blessings and opportunities that come with living in America, including the privilege of owning a successful landscape company for so many years. We are so fortunate to have a dedicated team committed to finding creative solutions, performing quality workmanship, and providing excellent service for our clients. Our clients often tell us how much they appreciate our care for their properties, and that truly means the world to us. We very much appreciate our clients and their trust in us. This is the American Dream. Today, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the brave men and women who sacrificed for our freedom. We are thankful for the opportunity to recognize our many blessings. To everyone, have a safe and happy 4th of July!🇺🇸
