Another “farm-to-table” moment in the books 🥬 our neighbor introduced us to this great leafy green called Endive. She’s been raving about it, offered her extras and she even insisted I plant a few in my plot when she thinned hers. So this week I’ve finally harvested some and stir-fried it with some garlic (pic 2) 😋 the texture is so good! 10/10 would grow again.

I hope this encourages you to go out and try a new food this week. Some times we get so used to our “normal foods” we miss out on the breathe of what God’s creation has to offer!

Side note : we were in awe when she told us how she had sown her Endive - she took a seed stalk from last year and waved it a couple times on top of her raised bed like a magic wand ! 🧚🪄 😅 it was certainly making me question my seed starting efforts for a second 🥲 one thing for sure is our neighbor is consistent with her watering and fertilizing. So I’m sure that had a lot to do with the great yield she gets too.

Edible w**ds 🌱 I was walking by this big lush w**d around the faucet at the community garden and thought man they look pretty good, looks kind of like spinach eh? Lo and behold, they are - not spinach - but yes they are edible! This is Broadleaf Plantain! They love growing in swampy areas and that’s what we have them around two of the faucets at the garden.

I did harvest (w**ded 🤭) some for a little taste test and they are great. I might bring you guys along next time to show you the soil it likes as well. When I pulled them out the soil underneath was so so soggy, it’s practically mud 🥴 that also goes to show that they probably won’t like it in our raised beds, where water drains much quicker.

Had a run in with two praying mantises as I clean up my small 5x10 plot today! 😂 I totally scared the heck out of this poor mantis as I was grooming my kale plants. As I was going through quickly pulling off leaves all of a sudden I felt a claw 🤡 and there it was waving it’s little arms trying to fight me. I apologized for disturbing it, took a picture, and just left its kale plant alone :)

I’ve come such a long way from being squeamish to any bugs to just laughing off a direct contact today. Though it does help to know that praying mantis are good bugs to have in the garden 🐛

Repotted some babies from the prop tray and they filled up the top shelf beautifully 🖤

From the left :

The philodendron Rio is looking a little wild with its branches going in all different directions but worry not! it will adjust and face outwards after a few weeks. Even then, I might pot up some to be in its place instead haha. Isn’t our garden always a work in progress.
