Why are we raising money to build a Dicey Langston statue... ??? Let me tell you about Dicey Langston

Dicey Langston Springfield

Patriot, War Heroine, Spy, Frontier Settler, Entrepreneur, Wife, Mother of 22 and at the time of her death, grandmother and great grandmother more than a 140

Our country, our state and many families, exist because of this extraordinary woman.

In her teen years, she was a spy and patriot in the awful back country war of the American Revolution.

In early adulthood, she married war veteran, Thomas Springfield. Together, thanks to a land grant that was a war veteran benefit from the state, they became one of the first Americans to settle permanently in what became Travelers Rest. Here they live, ran a farm and businesses, including an inn for travelers. Here she died in 1837, after raising 22 children and becoming a founding mother of the area.

We are going to honor her and inspire many in the future with a statue in the small plaza in Travelers Rest, off Main Street and the Swamp Rabbit trail.

But we need your help. We need to raise funds for a life-sized statue of Dicey when she was a teenager.

Will you join us in uniting and inspiring this community for decades to come with this monument?
