Cathedral ceilings are notorious for creating some of the worst ice dams out there. The more roofs I inspect/steam, the more I see the same issues over and over:

- the original builder didn’t provide adequate ventilation

- Insulation falls way short of today’s building code requirements

- most commonly, a combination of both.

When those two critical elements are done wrong, heat escapes into the roof, melts snow unevenly, and you end up with massive ice buildup at the eaves.
