Iterations. Evidence, over time, of how I listen and draw out of you and your space, just how far together- we can reach. A narrative design process to create a daily joyful experience that expresses your energies. I am that sensitive. Let me know when you can start a conversation.

Inspirations: Fashion- it is a well spring that brings color, textures and bending examples to my eyes and heart. This realm has been a portal to where interiors may go. Especially color.

Here is W***y Chavarria. If you dont have TikTok- search for him on YouTube. Just look at him, his approach to this Paris show and his clear heart.

Pro Tip: He has collaborated with Kendrick Lamar for the Super Bowl half-time show. I’m gonna watch for that alone. Explore and Enjoy!

Narrative Design Process. Choose a story or adapt or bend or cull a story or just make one up. Populate the story with a few true-isms or solid aspects. Like…
“My client bought this property (true), and it’s one of the oldest homes in Traverse City (true) and there was a small church there (not true) and the parsonage remains (sort of true, there is a house) and only the foundation and the North Wall remained (total fabrication) and we are simply building our Glass House upon this ecumenical stone foundation to revive and re-invigorate our connection to light and nature and weather through the thin veil of modern glass.”
See? Now we can ideate around that Narrative- that Story. We are not slaves to such a story but it provides, for a moment, a start, a hook, a prompt from which to explore. It is the cut in the grass, that opening, that portal from which we dive into, for a moment or longer, to see if it has some depth, some offering of interest. Are we still attracted? How does this feel?
Sometimes we find out how much these stories cost. All that Masonry, whew. So… We moved on and re-wrote our Narrative.

Our studio. My place. Ever adapting. Laboratory where I experiment with tissue paper iterations, full scale dry-erase studies, mock-ups, prototypes, wondering, trying it out. What if? Why not? Let’s look, step back and maybe come back tomorrow morning to see how we feel. More to tell about our location here in Central Neighborhood. Another story about dreaming.

“What If?”
What if I help you expand on that whim, that idea of yours?
What if we explored the options, the questions and the potentials of your idea, your desire, your hope?
What if we continue in our exploration and create plans and details, gather craftspeople and suppliers to come along and help us in this journey?
What if we all ride this venture through the challenges and the triumphs?
What if you can enjoy the fruits of our journey, just as you always wanted- that experience? The experience of your own whim, come to life.

Invited back but by a different host! A former client of mine ended up buying the home of another wonderful client, which featured that stainless steel kitchen seen in the prior post. After two years of getting settled, she came to me with two exciting requests: a more spacious kitchen and a glass enclosure over the courtyard for enjoying meals and stargazing, no matter the weather.

That courtyard location for the glass enclosure became our first challenge with snow, ice, and water issues collecting in the two valleys created by the glass roof. Instead of giving up on the idea- I wondered if we just moved this concept- away from the house and away from the ice and water challenges? Letting go of our attachment to the first idea, not giving up but rather respecting my client’s idea and investing in “What If?” exploration looks like this today. More to follow!

3rd Installment of World’s Longest Introduction: The Joys of being Invited to Collaborate and Create New Experiences for Clients. In 2009 we got to show off our kitchen design for Ken and Joan Richmond. The space was previously their bedroom. That gorgeous tall furniture piece which used to hold sweaters was originally from Joan’s father’s office. Here Ken allowed us to playfully zig where others zag- We went full modern with clean stainless simplicity to allow the house, it’s age and detailed trims to sing without our new additions trying to pose or fake old. Little did I suspect that 13 years later, I would be invited back to this place of collaboration and joy for a new owner and whole new chapter for this special corner of the Boardman Neighborhood.
