Alles Gueti zum Geburtstag liebi Schwiz! 🇨🇭Designsmiths is growing! A very belated introduction to Architect, Ruth Preusser. We can’t think of a better day to introduce her than Aug 1, Swiss National Day. Why, you may wonder fine reader 🤔 Because Ruth is a licensed Architect in Switzerland, where she is originally from. She has been working as an Architect there for the last twelve years and has designed and realized small, medium and large projects.

We are thrilled to have her be a part of the studio not only because she bakes beautiful breads and treats but her keen eye for detail and strong design sense. (So Swiss! Our library proves our longstanding love of Swiss design).

It’s been wonderful having more national holidays to celebrate (thanks for the timely posts we tried our best with the eggs!) And while I’m thanking Swiss strangers, thank you !

A custom porch skirt for the Wellington Victorian. Porch skirting is designed to enclose and protect the underside of the deck from harsh weather and critters too! Additionally, porch skirting is an opportunity to unify the exterior aesthetic of the home. We really enjoy designing the small details. You may notice the letter B mirrored inside the ornate design, see the stories for sketches and process.

At the Lake Leelanau Cabin, the goal was to create a small footprint with a big impact. The expansive covered patio doubles the size of the living space while directing the view toward the trees beyond.

A: We are licensed professionals that design the project, specify materials, and coordinate with consultants and the contractor, but the design of a building involves far more than its appearance. A crucial part of our role in your project takes place after the building has been designed. When construction begins, we act as your agent and advocate to ensure the finished product is what you were expecting.⁠
