I’ve been working on this one for at least two years and I’m finally letting it go. Even when it was bothering me that it was taking me so long to finish it was a nice reminder of summer peacefulness all this time sitting on my studio wall.

The news has been hitting me hard lately and as an artist who unabashedly likes to paint pretty pictures of landscapes, I have been struggling with how to keep making art that is both genuine and feels meaningful through these trying times.

Last night between seeing breakdowns of state sanctioned murder on video and pictures of peaceful civilians barraged with tear gas, I was moved to tears by average people sharing pictures of candles lit in honor of ICE’s most recent victims in a simple but profound act of solidarity.

This morning this image popped into my head and I rushed to get it down. I would like to try it in oil and work on the composition to make it more worthy, but until then…

Rest in Peace

Kicking off 2026 with the last painting of 2025.

I set a lot of concrete resolutions last year that were quickly pushed aside. So for now, I’m going easy on myself and just throwing out some key words for 2026:
care, whimsy, ease, frivolity, adventurousness, action, maximizing, moisturizing… and probably more to come.

Happy New Year! Let’s make the most of it!

This piece- “Sunset- Frenchman Bay IV”- will be on display at the Hopewell train station as part of the Hopewell Tour Des Art One Piece show. There will be lots more big and small as well as experiments and sketches to see in my studio as part of the tour. I hope locals will come check out all the great art and music around town and stop by to say hello! The event runs Saturday and Sunday Sep 27-28 from 11:00-5:00. See link in bio for map and more details.

It’s a pleasure to have my latest piece “Hopewell Valley Sunrise” in the annual Ellarslie Open exhibition at the Trenton City Museum. This museum is such a hidden gem and worth checking out. The show opens today and runs until September 7th.

The official last painting of 2024 (I just put the last glaze on last night). 2024 felt like a bit of a struggle so maybe it’s fitting that this one has been in the mental queue since 2023. Still, considering how long some other ideas have been bouncing around, I suppose that’s not so bad after all! And now to see what 2025 holds…

That’s a wrap on my first year participating as an artist in the ! It was such a pleasure to meet and talk art with so many visitors this weekend. I’m really grateful to be a part of this great event in such an art loving community. It was a balm for the soul! The only bad part was that I only had a chance to check out a fraction of the art. Thank you to the organizers and everyone who braved the gray and rain!
