After a couple years mulling over whether I ought to revamp Cool Plants for Hot Gardens I decided to do it. It is a long and involved process to self-publish a book, but right now there are 1500 copies being bound at Roswell book binding in Phoenix. I expect to have those 1500 copies in my possession in about two weeks. Check out my recent blog post at

When the original version of Cool Plants for Hot Gardens sold out the publisher decided not to run any reprints. They returned the original files and it took me a while to decide what to do with them. I wanted to make some changes; drop some old species, add some new ones, have larger pictures […]

Just put up some new products on the website. Check out Cyphostemma, Uncarina roeoesliana, Agave bracteosa 'Monterrey Frost', Agave oteroi (only 1 super nice clone available), Calibanus x Beaucarnea, Beaucarnea goldmanii, Echinocereus rigidissimus and Echinocereus viereckii subsp. morricalii. Quantities are limited on all the new ones.

In case you missed some earlier new plants, I still have some Agave gigantensis (the real thing from Cerro Potrero in Baja California Sur) and Agave azurea (a new one Bob Webb and I described from the Vizcaino in Baja CA).

Hey everybody, Mark your calendars for Thursday night May 7. I'll be giving my latest presentation titled "Agave species Described Post Gentry" to the Tucson Cactus and Succulent Society. I will not be able to cover all the species described since 1982 but will cover some of the coolest ones around! The TCSS meetings are held at 7:00PM at the Sky Islands Public High School, 6000E. 14th St. Hope to see you there!

Tucson Cactus and Succulent Society provides activities for people interested in cactus and succulents from around the world.

Hello all, it's been awhile since I've posted. Been busy writing up another new species of agave which was finally published last week. My article describing Agave calciphila from the limestone hills at Nizanda on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in southern Oaxaca was published by Phytotaxa. Here are a couple photos. Hopefully the link below works and takes you to the article.
