We’re honored to share that HK has received the 2026 Jeff Harnar Award for Contemporary Architecture in the Southwest, recognizing Casa Luce. ✨
“Casa Luce reframes contemporary architecture in the Southwest via preservation as an active, creative practice: one that saves embodied energy, honors cultural lineage, and redefines architectural essence through transformation rather than replacement.”
This annual competition is open to international entries for projects completed in the Four Corner states of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. The distinguished jury was AIA Gold Medal winner, Lawrence Scarpa, FAIA, former Dean of Princeton School of Architecture, and National Design Award Winner, Monica Ponce de Leon, AIA, and Gabriel Diaz Montemayor, ASLA, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the University of Arkansas.
We are deeply grateful to our clients for their trust and commitment.
We also extend gratitude to the University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning and the Jeff Harnar Awards team: Robert González, Dean, Anthony Fettes, Awards Coordinator, and Jonathon Cunningham, Special Projects & Education Specialist. We are especially grateful to the Thornburg Foundation, whose generous support makes the Jeff Harnar Awards possible. Established by Garrett Thornburg in honor of his friend and architect Jeff Harnar, the awards embody the Foundation’s commitment to evidence-based approaches that address challenges impacting people and communities.
