Happy Salvage Saturday! We just wanted to show how a little TLC goes a long way… this beautiful door found a new home and was lovingly restored—and the results are nothing short of perfection! Salvaged materials bring a truly unique character to a space, adding the kind of history and individuality you simply can’t get from something brand new. And here’s the proof!

Just a reminder, we are closed today for the holiday weekend! We will see you Tuesday for normal business hours.

Our latest Deep Dive is up on the website, and we’re getting into a topic that’s easy to overlook: where petrochemicals might show up in interior finishes.

From paints to flooring, sealers, carpets, and more, we’re taking a closer look at what’s actually in the materials we bring into our homes and the alternatives worth considering.

Head to our website to check it out!

Some of the most important materials in a space are the ones you barely notice!

These beautiful floors were custom made by the oh-so talented David King, to match the original flooring in this home. The match is so seamless that the new floors meet the original without giving away where one ends and the other begins!

They were finished with Durable, Non-Toxic Wood Coatings 🌱 , giving the wood a durable, beautiful finish while letting the character of the floors shine through.

We don’t always get to talk about finishes at Originate. Oils, waxes, sealers and coatings might not be as visually exciting as tile, plaster or a beautiful countertop, and sometimes, quite literally, they disappear into the finished space. But they play an important role in the health, beauty and longevity of the materials we live with every day!

We carry a wide range of indoor and outdoor finishes for wood and concrete, including oils, waxes, stains and protective coatings. The “invisible” materials matter, too. They’re often what help the beautiful things last!

Looking for a piece of history? We’ve got a fun one for you! We just got in some immensely cool wood slabs and metal pieces that have quite a story behind them!

Originally from Golden Pin Lanes that opened on Miracle Mile in 1960 and stayed in business for nearly 60 years before closing its doors in 2019.

Afterward, Pima County purchased the property and transformed it into a new Pima County Service Center. The coolest part? Some of the original bowling alley materials were given a second life in the new building. They did a beautiful job preserving the history of the historic building and incorporating materials as not just furniture, but artistic displays throughout the building.

We think anyone could find inspiration on how to give these materials a new life. Swipe to see just how creative you can get with them — original bowling lane wood has been turned into waterfall-style desks, a bar counter, while the old metal lane gutters have been transformed into a seriously cool wall feature.

And now we have some of these same materials available at Originate!

Bowling lane wood: Pine and maple, approximately 1¾”–2½” thick, 42” wide, with pieces ranging from roughly 6–10 feet long (plus some shorter pieces).
Fair warning, these things are HEAVY. It took four people to move some of the lane pieces!

Lane gutters: 9” wide, 8–10 feet long, 18 gauge metal.

There’s something pretty special about taking a piece of a place where generations of people gathered, bowled, celebrated, and made memories! Come see us today and snag your piece of Tucson history.

Happy Salvage Saturday!

Looking back at this sweet Airbnb kitchen update with Sustainable Northwest Wood Restoration juniper butcher block used for both the island and laundry counter. Sometimes it’s the small, thoughtful updates that can make all the difference!

And speaking of making a difference, Sustainable Northwest Wood’s Restoration Juniper is sourced from grassland & watershed restoration projects in Eastern Oregon that is helping manage an out of control population. By removing the juniper, it is improving a fragile ecosystem for other threatened plants and wildlife while also helping restore the flow of water.

And better yet, the wood makes absolutely beautiful and durable butcher block! This is one of our favorite species, with its swirling grain patterns, knotty character, and variety of color! It really is a stand out material.

If you’re heading to La Rosa for a night of music, be sure to stop at Sisters Restaurant & Bar Restaurant & Bar before or after the show!

At Sisters, Marmoleum from Forbo Flooring Systems brings color and durability to the space. Blue across the main floor, Honeysuckle guiding the ramp to the sunken brick floor, and Dark Bistre outlining the transition. Marmoleum is a natural fit for restaurants, it’s durable enough for busy spaces, easy to maintain, and available in a huge range of colors that can really enhance the design.

From the floor to the ceiling, every element is working to make the space both visually engaging and comfortable. Custom Envirocoustic Wood Wool acoustical panels hang overhead on cables, helping to absorb sound and keep a busy restaurant from becoming too noisy. Suspended at different heights, the panels add depth, dimension, and a little drama overhead, turning an acoustic solution into something you can’t help but look up at!

As we mentioned in our post about La Rosa, we’ve been working with the spaces at the old Benedictine Church for several years now. From getting salvaged materials during demolition to helping supply materials to the new spaces, we are just truly impressed with how everything has turned out!

Happy Salvage Saturday! We got in 3 milky glass light fixtures that came out of a home built in the late 1920s on the east side of Tucson. They’re charming, simple, and full of that soft, vintage glow we love.

And we have 4 sets of these tall, skinny bi-fold, half-light doors that made their way here from Pearland, Texas! We love the whimsy the design on the glass adds to these doors!

Hope to see you today, open 12-4!

This old adobe in Barrio Viejo didn’t just get renovated, it was thoughtfully restored to highlight the character that was already there. The bathroom was finished with NHL 3.5 lime plaster in a custom color, bringing a soft, natural texture to the space. The original waves and imperfections were left intact, giving the plaster something to follow and creating a finish that feels layered and true to the old adobe walls.

Full-circle projects are some of our favorites! From salvaging pieces of the original Benedictine Church and giving them a second life throughout Tucson, to now helping bring a new gathering space to life within the building itself — La Rosa has been a fun one for Originate!

This project is also a milestone for us: La Rosa is the largest commercial flooring project Originate has ever worked on! Natural materials are sometimes overlooked for commercial applications because of the assumption that they can’t be sourced in large enough quantities or won’t hold up to the demands of a high-traffic space. But materials like Marmoleum from Forbo Flooring Systems can absolutely rise to the occasion. It’s durable enough for demanding environments like hospitals and schools, and at La Rosa, it can be found beneath your dancing feet and is even being used on the stage!

La Rosa pays homage to the building’s history as the “Pink Rose of the Desert” in more than just its name. The interior design thoughtfully carries that history forward through color, pattern, and details inspired by the original church. Marmoleum is incredibly fun to design with. Because it’s easy to cut, it opens up so many possibilities for custom patterns and details. One of our favorite details at La Rosa is the series of floor rosettes, which echo the beautiful stained-glass windows of the original church. We also love how the Marmoleum colors come together in the long side aisles creating a graphic detail that draws your eye through the entire space.

The Marmoleum selections include:

• Vivace series in Granada: the main auditorium floor
• Real series Dark Bistre: the stage (not pictured) and outlines of the floor rosettes
• Real series Honeysuckle: the main front bar floor, wrapping up the face of the bar as wainscoting, and down the side aisles
• Real series Dandelion: stripes running the length of the side aisles and the rosettes at either end of the main auditorium

This space is a great reminder that commercial spaces don’t have to choose between durability, natural materials, and great design. At La Rosa, they all come together!

A standout space like this deserves materials that let the design speak for itself! PaperStone in Charcoal creates a clean, expansive surface for the cooktop, sink, and plenty of prep space giving this kitchen a beautifully modern look.

The matte finish adds depth without distracting from the space, and its durable, non-porous surface is made to stand up to everyday use!
