Work In Progress.......
Foak table rescue????

This is what happens between jobs....I play and try to make something out of nothing.....

We found this foak table at a local thrift store for $5 and couldn't pass it up. Check out how deceptive this thing is....it looks real and feels nice and heavy till you cut it open to see just how furniture manufacturers do what they do.

You are looking at "hollow core" particle board with an oak veneer. This is a clever way to achieve that "thick solid look" while saving money and lightening the load. Particle board is typically heavier than oak.

I'm going to attempt to transform this into a functional gaming table using "real" hardwood. I've already successfully recessed the original table top 3/4" to accommodate an elevated storage space and game top.....which I'm planning to put another recessed reversible chess board in.

So this table will have 3 functioning surfaces. A usable coffee table top which flips over to a velvet card/board game table, which has a recessed reversible chess board... all designed to have hidden dowel locks and hardwood push pins hidden from plain sight to make this a functional puzzle.
....... just have to come up with some clever ideas on how to refinish it......stay tuned..

Is this going to fail?????

Fellowship Coffee Station for Reformation Baptist Church ⛪📸

It was a privilege to build this fellowship space for our church family. Since the building is a rental, the goal was to keep everything simple, practical, and functional.

We started with old, incomplete cabinets and a used granite countertop. I painted them inside and out, cut the granite to fit, and used the leftover piece for a backsplash. As you can see, cutting that solid granite inside created a massive fog bank in the sanctuary. I jokingly told the elders that three Charismatic preachers stopped by to ask about the new fog machine, and one of them told me I wasn't even using it right!

Thankfully, my wife jumped in and helped me clean up the whole mess. To finish the build, I used scrap wood from upstairs for the open shelving and lined them with upcycled rubber liners.

Grateful for the opportunity to serve, and especially thankful for my wife's help. Flip through the pictures to see the full transformation from start to finish!

COKER WOODWORKS PLAYTIME BENCH SERIES | #005: "HONK HONK"

Built Slow. Built Strong. Made to Last.

I just rolled the next addition to our heirloom series off the bench. "Honk Honk" is a fully articulated, furniture-grade tractor-trailer built for real, rugged toddler playtime.

For this build, I laminated deeply aged, 30-year-old Native Black Walnut to make my own solid timber blocks, and then worked with the grain to bring them into shape. I strategically turned the end grain and edge grains outward to face the light—a part of the wood most builders try to hide. For the trailer, I introduced a piece that had some natural sapwood running through it, revealing a high-contrast effect that I believe is stunning and captures the unique qualities of walnut.

The contrasting cargo dots are Southern Yellow Pine cut straight from my own backyard, paired with Philippine Mahogany inserts for the wheel detailing. The cab features realistic side mirrors, a hardwood dowel exhaust pipe, and a fully operational, pivoting fifth wheel and kingpin setup.

For the finish, I petrified the wood in a 100% natural mineral bath of fused sand and soda ash, saturated it with pure tung oil, and locked it in with my 3,600°F Thermal Fusion flash. It creates an ultra-smooth, child-safe satin glaze with zero petrochemical toxins. As always, this piece is fully serialized and carries its own hand-branded, signed solid wood maker's tag and provenance card.

🏷️ THE INVESTMENT: $180

MURDERING HEIRLOOMS // Episode 3: Ghosts from the Past

For millennia, tree-wrights held all the keys to preserving timber.

They didn’t use toxic plastic sludge; they utilized God's natural design. Pure tung oil. Sand and soda ash boiled into liquid water glass. Mineral oil. Linseed oil. Raw beeswax and hard carnauba.

These weren't cosmetics. These were elemental compounds that fused directly into the cellular matrix of the wood—petrifying the fibers, hardening the grain, and locking the very soul of the timber into an unassailable fortress for generations.

Then, Big Chem stepped in to reshape the world in its own plastic image.

In the 1950s, corporate juggernauts like Minwax launched a full-scale invasion of the traditional workshop. They ripped out ancient, natural formulas and replaced them with fast-drying varnish gums, synthetic petroleum distillates, and liquid polyurethane.

They knew they couldn’t compete with the timeless durability of nature. So, they buried the truth alive.

They unleashed massive marketing campaigns that successfully convinced two full generations of builders into believing that suffocating wood under a synthetic, plastic film was "just how things are done."

They sold artificial convenience over CONTINUANCE, while choking the natural breath completely out of the timber. They sold us pretty over preservation, and we've been paying for it ever since.

But the corporate giants hit a brick wall: THE WOODWORKERS STARTED RISING UP.

Real craftsmen woke up to the deception. They looked at modern finishes and realized plastic coatings look completely dead, feel artificially fake, and WILL NEVER STAND THE TEST OF TIME. They ruin the raw majesty of real grain while guaranteeing a future of peeling, cracking failure.

When the chemical companies realized they couldn't keep the truth buried or suppress the rebellion, they switched tactics to protect their massive profit margins: THEY TRIED TO COPY IT.

They slapped words like "Tung Oil Finish" on the front of their cans to cash in on the natural resurgence. But don't mistake that for a mistake—this was a deliberate corporate bait-and-switch. A chemical giant has zero desire to sell you pure nature when they make their billions processing petroleum.

They intentionally copied the name, but flooded the cans with a toxic cocktail of harsh petroleum distillates, heavy metallic dryers like cobalt, and synthetic alkyd resins. They didn't resurrect history—they just packaged TOXIC SLUDGE and sold it to you as heritage.

But you cannot keep buried treasure hidden forever.

Today, independent powerhouses like Walrus Oil and Tallahassee Tung Oil are holding the fort alongside the builders who refuse to let the TREE-WRIGHT WAYS DIE.

We are bringing back the raw compounds that fuse directly into the wood fibers instead of sitting like POISONOUS PLASTIC WRAP on top of them. We are letting the grain breathe. We are letting it age. We are helping the timber to TELL ITS STORY AGAIN.

THE STORY GOD WROTE IN THE GRAIN.

This is a clarion call to every homeowner, parent, and buyer who refuses to let a corporate cartel dictate the future of their home.

If you refuse to buy the plastic lie, if you refuse to bring toxic sludge across your threshold, and if you demand real furniture that honors the grain—stand with us.

Like this post, share it to expose the corporate scam, and drop a comment below to claim true heritage for your family.

MURDERING HEIRLOOMS // Episode 2: The Co-Dependent Cartel

The modern disposable furniture empire is built on a lie. Its factories and chemical companies are locked in a toxic cartel, unable to survive without one another.

When global manufacturers abandoned solid wood for cheap engineered MDF and particleboard, they built a structural nightmare. They did this because it's cheaper and faster—because it's not actually real, living wood.

These boards are nothing but glued industrial sawdust acting like a sponge—swelling, bubbling, and completely disintegrating the second moisture touches them.

To bind that dust together, factories flood it with urea-formaldehyde resins. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) verifies that formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen that continuously off-gasses into your living space, causing respiratory distress and long-term neurological health risks.

To keep this toxic dust from dissolving from ambient air, factories wrap the entire piece in a non-porous, waterproof plastic sticker called veneer.

That is where the trap snaps shut.

Because that outer veneer shell is synthetic plastic, natural, breathable oils cannot stick to it—there are no organic pores or living fibers for a natural finish to bond with. Giants like Minwax had to manufacture a diabolical solution: thick, plasticized petrochemical sludge specifically engineered to glue itself to fake plastic wood stickers to fake an illusion of life.

To seal that chemical bomb, they rely on synthetic polyurethane finishes. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) documents that the curing chemicals in these plasticized topcoats—specifically Toluene Diisocyanate (TDI)—are hazardous respiratory sensitizers and documented animal carcinogens.

The fake wood requires the plastic finish; the plastic finish requires the fake wood. Neither can exist alone.

If we stop buying their chemical shells, their entire assembly line falls apart, forcing the industry to abandon their artificial dust and return to real wood and natural finish.

Reject the finish. Reject the glued sawdust. Resurrect the time-tested, century-proven, non-toxic way of the tree-wright.

MURDERING HEIRLOOMS // Episode 1: Pretty Poison

For 80 years, corporate chemical giants have hidden a diabolical secret inside every can of mass-market finish. In the 1940s, industrial factories scaled up massive production of synthetic resins and petroleum byproducts to coat war equipment instantly.

When the war ended, these complexes took that chemical surplus, packaged it into retail cans, and sold it to the American homeowner as the new, improved way to treat the grain!

They strategically used the illusion of "short dry times" to erase centuries of natural wood preservation, brainwashing us into trading the "life of the grain" for fast, toxic cosmetics.

They went so far as to convince us to use this stuff ourselves, well aware that these cocktails silently off-gas toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into our homes for months and sometimes years.

What's crazy is the hypocrisy at the source.

Inside corporate factories now, these chemicals are applied by automated sprayers where every worker is strictly held to the highest safety protocols—full respirators and heavy PPE because of the potential toxicity.

Yet, they still sell these exact same toxins raw on the shelves of your local Big Box Stores to everyday families who have little to no understanding of how dangerous this stuff is.

A tree-wright rejects the hustle. I apply my heritage finishes with my bare hands because true craftsmanship honors the life of the wood and the health of your home. If we strip away their market, they will be forced to abandon their plastic shortcuts and return to the earth.

Reject the finish. Resurrect the time-tested, century-proven way of the tree-wright.

If you believe our families deserve toxic-free homes and true American craftsmanship, please hit SHARE. Help me break this message past the corporate algorithms so we can wake up the next generation.
