Signs You May Have Poor Indoor Air Quality 🌬️

Your home can look clean and still have air quality issues you can’t see.

The EPA reports that indoor air can be 2 to 5 times more polluted than outdoor air. Modern Central Valley homes are built to be tight and energy efficient, which is great for your energy bills, but it can also mean pollutants and stale air have nowhere to go.

If any of these sound familiar, your indoor air quality may be worth a closer look:

• Allergies or congestion that get worse at home or first thing in the morning
• Dust that seems to come back almost as soon as you clean
• Stuffy or stale air, especially in certain rooms
• Lingering odors from cooking, pets, cleaning products, or furniture
• Dry winter air causing static shocks, dry skin, or scratchy throats
• A musty smell when your AC or heat kicks on
• Indoor air that feels noticeably worse during wildfire smoke or harvest dust season
At Wally Falke’s, we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We start by looking at what's actually affecting your home's air and then recommend solutions that make sense for your needs.

✅Whole-home filtration can help capture dust, pollen, pet dander, wildfire smoke, and other airborne particles.
✅UV-C purification can help control mold and bacteria that can grow around a damp indoor HVAC coil.
✅Whole-home ventilation can bring in filtered outdoor air while helping maintain your home's heating and cooling efficiency.
✅Humidity control can help keep indoor humidity in a more comfortable range, especially during our dry Central Valley winters.

And don't forget about the home itself! Air sealing, duct sealing, and insulation can help reduce the amount of unfiltered outdoor air entering your home.

If your home never quite feels fresh, your HVAC system may not be the only thing to look at.

Schedule an Indoor Air Quality Assessment with Wally Falke’s and find out what's really going on with the air inside your home 🏡

🏠 Can You Put Furniture in Front of Your HVAC Return? 🤔

Let’s be honest, sometimes the return vent is placed in the WORST possible spot in the room.

But here’s why it matters: your return vent’s job is to pull air back into your HVAC system to keep it circulating and cooled or heated properly. Blocking it makes your system work twice as hard, driving up energy bills and putting extra wear on your blower motor.

So, can you put furniture near it?

Ideally, you want to leave at least 6 to 12 inches of breathing room around the grille.

But is leaving it wide open always realistic? For most homeowners, no. If you need to put a console or table in front of a return vent, opt for an open-backed shelf or pieces with open legs so air can easily flow underneath and around it. Avoid pushing solid couches, beds, or cabinets flat against the wall.

Your furniture can stay, just give your return the clearance it needs to keep your air moving! 🌬️

💡 Noticing extra noise coming from your vents, or feeling hot and cold spots around the house? Restricted airflow might be the culprit. Give our team a call or send us a message to get your airflow checked!

Excuse me, do you have a moment to talk about your home's HVAC maintenance plan? 🤣
