Remmert Director of Production Evan Bates recently attended the AWI Boot Camp at Pittsburg State University, spending the week continuing to grow his understanding of the architectural woodwork industry and the processes behind the work our teams perform every day.

The experience provided valuable insight into fabrication standards, craftsmanship, ex*****on, and the level of detail required to keep projects moving successfully. For Evan, it was also an opportunity to continue growing as a leader by staying closely connected to the work, the challenges teams face, and the support needed to help people succeed.

At Remmert, we believe strong leadership starts with a willingness to keep learning, keep listening, and stay engaged in the work itself. We’re proud of Evan for continuing to invest in both his own growth and the future of our team.

In multifamily construction, cabinetry isn’t just about finishes and layouts. It’s also about logistics, timing, and visibility. When products are being manufactured halfway around the world, small delays can become difficult to track and even harder to recover from once the schedule tightens.

That’s one reason domestic and regional manufacturing partnerships can make such a difference. Better communication, shorter lead times, stronger quality control, and more visibility into production all help teams keep deliveries and installation aligned with the realities of the jobsite.

There’s value in working with American-made products, but there’s also a practical side to it. The more visibility teams have into where materials are and when they’ll arrive, the easier it becomes to plan confidently and keep projects moving forward.

Where have you seen supply chain visibility make the biggest difference on a project?

Some parts of millwork look effortless when they’re finished. Getting there usually takes a lot of coordination behind the scenes.

Radius work, especially, depends on timing, communication, and craftsmanship across multiple stages of the process. Material preparation, lamination, shaping, finishing, and assembly all have to stay aligned for the final product to come together the way it was intended.

It’s a good reminder that complex work rarely happens because of one person or one step. It comes from teams working together closely and paying attention to the details all the way through the process.

What’s a part of the fabrication process most people probably underestimate?

On a large multifamily project, one of the best things a trade partner can be is predictable.

General contractors already have enough moving parts to manage. The subcontractors that stand out are usually the ones who quietly own their scope, communicate clearly, and keep work moving without creating extra friction for the rest of the team.

That doesn’t mean problems never come up. On large projects, they always do. The difference is how they’re handled. Reliable partners raise issues early, stay aligned with the schedule, and help solve problems before they turn into delays that affect everyone else on site.

In multifamily construction, fewer surprises usually lead to smoother projects. And over time, that kind of consistency is what builds long-term relationships and repeat business.

What qualities make a trade partner someone you’re confident bringing onto the next project?

We’re proud to share that Remmert & Company has been recognized by ABC Alabama with both the **2026 Safest in the Industry Gold Award** and **STEP Platinum certification**.

These recognitions reflect something that matters deeply to our team: creating a culture where safety, accountability, and looking out for one another remain part of how we approach the work every day. From the shop floor to the field, strong safety standards don’t happen by accident. They come from consistent effort, communication, and people who take pride in doing things the right way.

We’re grateful to the entire Remmert team for the work they put in every day to help make recognitions like this possible.

The Remmert team recently attended the ABC Alabama 2026 Convention, spending time with industry leaders, partners, and professionals from across the state.

From economic outlooks and workforce discussions to conversations around construction, healthcare, housing, and the future of the industry, the event created a valuable opportunity to step away from day-to-day project work and stay connected to the bigger conversations shaping construction moving forward.

Barry and Luke appreciated the chance to learn, reconnect with familiar faces, and meet new people across the industry. ABC continues to play an important role in bringing professionals together and helping strengthen the construction community throughout Alabama.

Thanks to everyone we had the chance to spend time with during the convention. We’re looking forward to continuing many of the conversations started there.

When a project has 7,000 cabinets instead of 70, small mistakes stop being small pretty quickly.

There’s a perception that multifamily interiors are simple because the units repeat. In reality, repetition creates a different kind of complexity. When hundreds of units are moving at the same time, consistency becomes critical. A missed detail, incorrect component, or sequencing issue doesn’t just affect one room; it can ripple across an entire project.

That’s why large multifamily work is really about systems management as much as installation. Materials, deliveries, shop drawings, field coordination, and installation teams all have to stay aligned for the project to keep moving efficiently.

Repeatable work still requires precision. In many ways, the larger the project gets, the more important that precision becomes.

What’s one operational challenge you see become more difficult as project scale increases?

Our Team Member Appreciation Day 2026 was a great reminder of what makes Remmert special: the people behind the work.

Every project we take on depends on teamwork, trust, communication, and people who genuinely care about doing things the right way. Days like this are a chance to step away from schedules and deadlines for a bit, spend time together, and recognize the relationships that help keep everything moving forward.

We’re grateful for the team we’ve built and the culture they continue creating every day across the office, shop, and field.

Strong projects start with strong people, and we’re fortunate to have both at Remmert.

Our April company meeting was a good reminder that strong teams are built on more than just projects and deadlines.

We had the chance to officially recognize several past Remmert & Company Award of Excellence recipients with plaques honoring their contributions and leadership:
🏆 Jim Kelley — 2023
🏆 JC Robertson — 2024
🏆 Mike Calhoun — 2025

We also wrapped up our March Madness bracket challenge, which brought out a little friendly competition around the office. Congratulations to Celeste for taking first place and heading home with a championship ring and a new pair of Jordan 1’s. And congratulations to Carolyn as well… for being a good sport about finishing last.

Moments like these are a good reminder that the relationships behind the work matter just as much as the work itself.
