Some safe nesting materials for my birding friends.
TWIGS--Twigs can be left where they fall or stacked in a neat pile.
MOSS--Keep it from blowing away by sticking it in a crevice of a tree or shrub.
DRIED GRASS CLIIPPINGS--Be careful about grass that has been treated with a spray or fertilizer.
DEAD LEAVES--To keep them in place, mix them with heavier sticks.
STRAW--Stuff strands of straw into a suet feeder for birds to pluck.
PINE NEEDLES--Dried needles are among bluebird's preferred nesting materials.
WHAT TO SKIP--Plastic, Yarn or string that can get caught on birds, Dryer lint because it dissolves in the rain, Human hair that can wrap around baby and adult birds.

To All Of The Gardeners Out There:
Our daughter, Brenda, used to grow plants for the Farmers Marget. She quit years ago and recently found some seed in her freezer which she gave me. Just to see if it would germinate I planted some cabbage and cauliflower seed on March the 11th. The seed was dated 2008 and 2011. 90% of this old seed germinated within four days. My daughter, Kathy, gave me some grow lights which I hookd up last night and I am going to have some very early cabbage cauliflower and broccoli plants. This is just to inform you that you do not have to throw seed away if you have any left. Some of this was 13 years old. Just be sure to keep it refrigerated or in the freezer. Spinach is about the only seed that doesn't sprout easily if it is not fresh . Good luck gardening this year.
