The Workshop is where this mission comes to life.

Built on Freedom is our chance to celebrate America’s 250th birthday while honoring the journeys of more than 200 veterans and first responders who have been part of the Salute to Carpentry program.

These men and women have become part of the Workshop in ways that are hard to fully explain. They are members, mentors, volunteers, builders, encouragers and friends. They are part of the fabric of this place.

Today, we are helping make a strong push for both Meat Raffle tickets and Built on Freedom event tickets. Both support the same mission, and both help The Inspired Lumber Project provide this program to more veterans and first responders.

Built on Freedom is about more than one event or one raffle.

It’s about celebrating America’s 250th birthday while honoring the journeys of more than 200 veterans and first responders who have been part of the Salute to Carpentry program.

These are men and women who walked into the Workshop, tried something new, worked side by side with others who understand, learned new skills, built with their own hands and became part of a community that continues long after the first six-week class ends.

One of my favorite parts of the Workshop is watching the pure, honest creativity that happens when a child is given a piece of wood, some paint, a few tools, a little inspiration, and the encouragement to choose for themselves and try without apology.

Our first Camp for ALL for2026 was exactly that.

There were ideas, decisions, problem-solving, proud moments, and plenty of sawdust. But more than anything, there was confidence being built right alongside the projects.

This is why we do what we do.

Our next Camp for ALL, in partnership with the Autism Society of Northwest Ohio and Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be on Sunday, June 28.

The most amazing thing happened. For absolutely no reason, Our friend and long time fixture at the wood shop, Walt, and his wife Joni, presented us with some of the most amazing cookies we’ve ever eaten. Not only did they taste great, but they were skillfully decorated with our logo.

Big thanks to Walt and Joni. We’re not worthy. And huge shout out to Mental Bakedown. Can’t recommend them enough.

We know some kitties that got new handcrafted special toys, made by those that love them the most. 🐾

We had so much fun building cat trees in partnership with Humane Ohio and we are so grateful to everyone who came out to cut, sand, stain, build and wrap something personal that will make some very lucky cats very happy. Oh, did I mention the laughing and the love of floofs. There was a lot of the too.

Huge thanks to Humane Ohio for the important work they do for animals and families in our community. We loved being part of it, and we loved watching this group turn lumber, screws, glue, and rope, A LOT OF ROPE, into the ultimate kitty hangout.

Awesome people. Great cause. Happy cats. That’s a pretty perfect day at the Workshop. ❤️

Woodworking Foundations for Teens (Ages 15-17) is a hands-on craftsmanship experience at Inspired Lumber Workshop. June 23–26, 9:00 AM–1:00 PM daily. Teens will learn tool safety, joinery, finishing techniques, and complete projects to take home that they'll be proud of for years to come. This is not a typical summer camp. This is a real, skill-building experience for kids that genuinely want to learn.
