I need you to understand that, if you voted for Donald Trump, this is what you helped to usher in. Ignorance and, even worse, willful ignorance has led to what has potential to become the darkest season our country and our people have ever seen.

Voting based on single issues is foolish and voting solely based on the impact to your pocketbook is selfish. Voting based on fundamentalist religious beliefs is arguably the worst of all and has led to a probable systemic dehumanization of everyone that doesn’t look and believe the same as you.

You have wives, daughters and people in your life who you actively voted against. You have personally placed their well-being and existence in jeopardy because of a narrow and self-centered world view. If you’re a christian, congratulations. You just elected your anti-christ and I hope you’re prepared for the devastation he will bring to this country and the people you love.

I hope you feel insulted and shamed by this. More importantly, though, I hope you’ll be provoked to look beyond yourself and your religion and realize what you’ve done. You weren’t casting your vote. You were casting stones and have welcomed an attack on your friends, family and humanity.

This election means that a significant portion of the US population isn't ready to let go of racism, sexism, homophobia and the vomitous hold that religion has on them.

It means we'll be turning away from decades of progress and hard work toward building a more diverse and equitable nation in favor of exclusion and the "old white man" patriarchy.

It reveals how selfishly and willfully ignorant those around us really are. The world is watching and I'm ashamed of the people of the United States. We have to do better and embrace what makes us unique if we're ever going to loose these foolish chains.

If you’re hurting today, take the time you need to mourn and then let’s regroup to see how we can push even harder for a brighter and more inclusive future. Let’s band together and stand up against the harmful theologies, rhetorics and institutions that have this country in a chokehold right now. We have to push even harder next time if we want to see the change we need.

If you voted for and feel the urge to defend the adulterous felon you just helped put in office, however, you can kindly and quietly unfollow this account (friends and family included). You will not get my business and I don’t need your support. For the sake of my family and the beautifully diverse people in my life that I voted to protect, I’d rather not be associated with such willful disregard of humanity.
