I recently read a statement from Naval Ravikant, a Tech Investor who said networking is overrated. He says we need to hide in a room, build something ''amazing'', and let people come to us.
Here’s why I disagree with him:
As someone who is building a business and a life around connecting with people, I can tell you that my most loyal and long-lasting clients didn’t come from sitting behind a laptop.
They came from networking events, social gatherings, and genuine conversations.
Life is not just business, it's simply being a walking, talking human being who listens, understands, and engages with others.
Simon Sinek recently said that people feel more lonely than ever, even though we are more "connected" than ever. And I see this in our industry too.
We spend so much time focusing on the tech, the builds, and the projects that we forget about the human element.
Joining an organization such as NKBA, the world's leading kitchen and bath association, and becoming a board member has reminded me of the incredible value of face-to-face interactions.
At networking events, I’ve met people with fascinating stories, unique perspectives, and shared passions. These aren’t just business contacts but friends, mentors, and collaborators.
I’ve learned that when you step out of your comfort zone, put yourself out there, and talk to strangers, you find beautiful stories and incredible human connections.
Real networking is not going out there and asking people for favors.
It's going out there and thinking about what you can do for others.
It translates into acts of service, listening, and understanding what motivates people.
My message to you is simple:
Don’t hide away and wait for the world to come to you.
Go out there and meet it. Talk to a stranger and attend that networking event.
You never know who you’ll meet or what opportunities will come your way.
Networking is not overrated.
To me, it’s essential for a fulfilling, meaningful, and connected life.
