An update on our house finch nest the last eggs was taken. 🥚

I had put a camera out to try to capture what was taking the eggs but forgot to set it before bed, here's a clip of the spot I watched with some food in the nest. No luck getting the thief on camera! 📷

Now there is 1 egg from the house finch nest. We'd hope it would return but it seems something is getting the eggs. I suspect a rat.

Otherwise enjoying the sweet fruits of harvest with black cap raspberries! They ripen much sooner here then in the mountains, up in Pinchot Gifford it'll be August at least for them to be ready.

Where's the night-time gardening crew? 🌟 🌙

Gardening at night is one of my favorite ways to be productive. Hear me out, atspring/early summer nights we have light for the longest days so being out until 10:30 is doable. I throw a head lamp on grab a bucket, garden fork, hori-hori and spade.

What am I doing in this dusky hour you ask?

Weeding, turning beds, watering, and planting!!

It's cooler especially on warm days, my kids a peacefully snoozing.

Plants tolerant transplanting better then being in full sun, and honestly waiting until a not so sunny day if you can is helpful!

Sharing some blooms from around the garden, enjoying beginning of harvesting! Herbs are beautiful right now so starting to pick and dry these as well as enjoy all the mints in refreshing drinks. 🍃

Whatever your stance is on using pesticides or herbicides I think we can agree that aerial spraying in our watershed with these chemicals is not a good practice!

I grew up with logging in Idaho that sustainably harvested dead fall or standing timber cleared brush and maintained health of the forests with balance not using chemicals.

Please take a moment to urge leadership to cancel this aerial spraying. We already have many issues with our water supply why risk contaminating it even more? Not to mention the other ecological consequences but I'm here worried for the safety of my family.

We continue to add little extra layers of perennials throughout our garden. Here's a little clip of adding strawberry starts to a walkway border. These are put here for kid access and added ground cover as we battle weeds! 🍓

And these cowpots were put right into the ground and feed the soil win-win 🍃.

What's your go to for kids in the garden?

Bee's love borage! I also plant a lot other flowers California poppies, verbena, yarrow, cherker mallows and let herbs and vegetables flower and go to seed. 🌼

Amazing to see the last 6 years the evolution in my garden of types of Bees. 🐝

Anyone know what this bee is for sure? 👁
