Well folks, Straight Line is turning 23! Thats right, June 1st will be my 23rd year as owner and sole proprietor of this tile installation company. Last I checked I still dont have a single complaint anywhere. Not on any social media outlet, not on the BBB website, and the only complaint I ever had was when I had my phone number on my work van. The complaint came from the guy in front of me driving the speed limit in the fast lane! Lead, Follow, or get outa the way!
I want to take a second to say thanks to some influential people that have proven to be great foundation blocks in my business in fact you could say I wouldnt have made it this long without them!
My #1- The man who taught me how to install tile with speed and precision and gave me the confidence to take what I had learned and run with it, My Mentor RUSSELL BROWN! Love you Russ!
Who knew carrying your coffee thermos and listening to country music all day as we set circles around everyone else at the Mana Laia Suites (sp?) on maui would prove to be some of the best times of my life... we made a great team looking back, well Russ was a great teacher and eventually I picked it up haha. Its to bad we were making the Welch Boys all the money! The things I had learned those years from Russ have stayed with for the rest of my union carrier and still prove to be the best technics to this day! Thanks Russ.
When I did finally leave the union to start Straight Line Marble it was Randy Studer who took me under his wing! Randy quickly became 85 to 90% of my accounts receivable and his continued ball busting kept me sharp and competitive, He often would hook me up directly with the builders and it is Randy who helped me gain a reputation for quality opening more doors than I care to give him credit for. Randy soon became like a father figure or Mob Boss! He has that air about him even though he's not Sicilian he still made you wonder if you crossed him would a big guy named Guido come to your house to snap you in half! Randy Studer Thank You for all the years of keepin me out of trouble by burying me in work. Very much like my own father, Your patience and confidence, comradery, and constant micro managing helped establish Straight Line Marble. I owe you a debt that can only be paid forward! speaking of Father figures brings me to my closest figurehead,
Freddy Aim. Every third week or so I enjoy Fred's company at breakfast, usually at Camioes restaurant on the golf course. I feel Fred is the kind of non judgemental guy that you can really open up to, soft spoken, never mad or at least i cant tell, and over the years I have looked to Fred for advice on just about everything! Fred I look forward to every breakfast and I hope you live to be a hundred because you mean the world to me, a true friend.
Those are my top 3 and if you have actually kept reading to this point, you have way too much time on your hands!
Russ, Randy, and Fred you are guilty of making me the kind of reputable business owner that I am today and the most influential people in my life. Thanks for seeing something in me that I am sure wasnt there at first glance!
There are of course a virtual s**t ton more people to thank but I am a Tile Guy and not Nostradamus.
Hell I bet the three men featured here didnt read all the way through this post. but hey I'm still puttin it out there! Just wait until Straight Line turns 25, I might as well get started on that novel now if its to be ready on time!
